Question For Christians

posted 6th Nov
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the God I always learned about when I was religious is perfect and all-knowing. He understands what will happen with us, only he knows our true plan, and only he knows the time of the end of days.

That being said, how could he have possibly created a world into which he KNEW original sin would be born?

How could he willingly create humanity to suffer if he is a god of love?

No one has ever been able to answer this for me.

If he could not know that this would happen, and that humanity would fall to the wayside, then he is not all-knowing and therefore not a perfect, divine being.

If he DID know, but allowed it to happen so that we would know suffering and pain, then how can you claim he is a god that loves us?

Thoughts, please?

This may not answer all of your questions, but I enjoyed reading it. Maybe it's worth a shot?

That doesn't say anything the Bible doesn't say. It doesn't explain why God created us into a world in which he knew we were going to suffer, if he really is supposed to be all-knowing and all-powerful. It doesn't explain why he would create an angel he knew would turn against him.

Well, what I was taught is that YOU decide whether or not you make it into Heaven. Meaning, you decide if you suffer or don't. God did not create Adam & Eve knowing that they would betray him. God did not create us in a world of suffering. The world he created was beautiful. We are paying for the original sin of Adam & Eve.

That's just what I've learned. Every answer to every question I've ever wanted to know was located in the Bible, the word of God. I'm not pushing my beliefs on you, so please don't take it that way. I've met people that call themselves Christians & are absolutely rude & look down on anyone questioning their beliefs. I really hope someday someone will be able to answer your questions more than I can.

Thank you for taking the time to answer this.

So, according to what you were taught, he didn't know Adam and Eve would betray him?

So he is not all-knowing?

I should have posted this at a different time. I've always wondered this, even when I was of the faith, and no one, not elders or priests or theologists could answer this for me. I even sent an e-mail to the AState theological professor about this topic, and all I got back is that "Some questions really just boil down to faith and what is important to you."

I'm probably not answering this as well as someone else could, but I believe he knows what lies ahead in our future. Betrayal continues, people still sin. That's why he gave us his son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins. That being said, it is our choice whether we make it into Heaven or we don't. He gave us free will to decide that. What we do with the free will is up to us. So when you say 'all-knowing', yes I believe he has a path made out for each of our lives, but by giving us the free will we are the ones who choose how we spend eternity.

I wish I could answer this better, but clearly I've never majored in theology.

I came in here because I thought this was going to be about Questions For Christmas. My reading skills are obviously off tonight.

But, I *think* I remember hearing a Sunday school lesson back when I went to SS that said that God knew Adam & Eve were going to betray him. That's why he sent Jesus to die on the cross.

& I agree with the professor's answer. Faith. People can throw theories at you all day, but ultimately it's what you believe. Either you understand it, believe it, live by it or you don't.

I don't understand why the answer people go to when they don't have one is faith. It promotes the idea that people aren't meant to be questioning at all.

My point is this...if God knows everything, he's known everything that was going to happen. Why would he even create Satan if he knew he was going to rise up against him? Why did he allow sin to be born in the first place? Sure, Christians have the sacrifice of Jesus to go to, but all that says is from the beginning of time he was PLANNING for his "first born son" to die. I can't follow the logic here.

It just makes it sound like he orchestrated everything so that people would want to worship him. He sounds like a very self-conscious god.

I think you answered it pretty good with free will being the main point. The only thing I would add as a question or a thought to ponder, is wouldn't you rather your kids, family, or friends choose you because they love you and not because you made them to love you?

He is all-knowing from what I was taught but he wants to see if we can avoid tempetion(sp) or any other sins that are out there.

Maybe this will help more than any answers I can give you. I'm a believer, but there are still many things I am learning. Thanks for posting this because it gave me a chance to see things from a different perspective.

That is a very good way to look at it.
