Do you sing to your kids?

posted 6th Nov
Adina is 3, and her tantrums out in public are absolutely horrible...absolutely NOTHING works to stop her from screaming bloody murder- so as a last resort, I have to sing to her, and it's the ONLY thing that calms her down. I admit...I feel like a bit of an ass singing in public while walking around a store or whatever, but at least it stops the screaming hahaha

So, do you sing to your kids to calm them down? Or sing to them in general? Of the friends I've asked, most say they don't sing to their kids at all...which is surprising.

No. I don't. Lol. Just kidding sometimes I do.

My 4 year old cousin asked me to her "the letter song" so I started singing the alphabet and she put her hands of her ears and said stop.   I must suck.

*snort* Don't feel bad- sometimes I'll just start randomly singing around the house, it's a weird compulsion for me haha, and Adina will say "mommy, pleeeeeaaaasseee stop singing!" She only wants me to sing for HER on HER time apparently lol ...Princess Demandypants....

My boys love having DH and me sing to them. My 4 year old makes up all kinds of songs and thinks every topic should have it's own little diddy.

Awwww   I don't mind singing to my daughter, but I feel like an ass in public doing it...people must think I'm wacko...although, it's better than hearing her screech like a banshee over nothing lol

I don't know how kids come up with these songs....I record Adina's on my phone all the time- last week her signature song was "Squirrels in the water"

If that's what works!! Go for it...

I get embarrased when I see/hear people sing its sooo uncomfortable for me lol, so no I don't sing to them, my kids sing when they are by themselves but get embarrased like me when some1 catches them, or they notice we are watching... so I have a feeling they are like me lol

I use to with my daughter, but now she goes "Well hush hush mama, it's Nessas time to be queen". Lol. And she takes it away. If try to even sing with her after that she just tells me No and starts over. haha.

But with my son, I always sing to him to sleep. Especially when he's sick. And to calm him down, he likes to listen to guitar. Lol. I just put on some Santana and he is just sitting zoned out.

Singing makes her scream louder. Or start screaming when she was just fine before lol.

I think it's because she thinks singing=bed time and she doesn't want to go to bed.

I ALWAYS sing to DS. We have music playing an awful lot in our house and I'm singing pretty much all day. I usually get all silly and sing and dance with him and he loves it. He laughs and gets all excited   I even sing commercial jingles to him lol. And then I'll sing to him seriously if we're having quiet time before bed.

My daughter loves commercial songs. Her favorite is that one Internet Explorer comemercial. She mumbles most of the words, but boy she can get down to it. Lol. Shaking those hips in every direction.

I have a 3 and almost 5 year old. Singing doesn't work when my kids are angry because they just tell me to be quiet. haha. Terrible voice.

I sing to my kids all the time. And dance with them.... I think people enjoy seeing affectionate mothers versus miserable children any day. Their favorite songs are You Are My Sunshine and that song: "I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and hug around the neck. Boo-ooooo." Plus any nursery rhymes, or whatever's on the radio or TV.   I'll also reprimand them in public too, though.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry about looking like a wacko or whatever for singing to your kids. That's stupid, if anyone thought that they can shove their cold hearts right up their asses.

I sing to the kiddos. Muse is the only music that soothes DS, so I end up singing a whole album to him. DD is more of a Blue October/Britney Spears fan, so I'll sing that to her.
