Do they say you can use the extra money for whatever you please? If not, that's a really sad way of taking advantage of people that are trying to help you.

We are able to pay for everything we and the girls needs just fine now. We don't live in the nicest apartment, it's older and the girls don't get brand new everything, but we are able to meet all of their needs just fine.

And a lot of you missed the part where I said if she gets SSI, I'm asking if it would be a good idea to be a SAHM if she gets approved for SSI. If she doesn't, then I would get a job.

Well if living paycheck to paycheck is the ideal situation for you.....go for it! be a SAHM.

You are not able to pay for anything if you're living off of loans. Once again I don't mean to sound harsh but that's the truth. Don't get offended.

Anyway, there's no reason she shouldn't get approved for SSI.

SSI would maybe be 600. I get disability and I make 919 a month.

A job is just a job to a lot of people. And him being in school and living off of loans shows that the job at best buy is just a job. So yeah, he would "waste his time" applying because it's better than nothing for him.

I'm not saying go and have a shopping spree with extra money. But if there's a necessity atm I don't see anything wrong with getting something a family desperately needs. Dh gets 1500 a month for school but everything for school is paid for so yes we use the money for necessities and i don't see it as taking advantage of anyone. He served his country honorably and we are grateful every day for what receive for his service. At the end of the day no matter who disapproves of how anyone chooses to spend money isn't their business. Life goes on....

All she needs is your love and attention. Neither of your girls will ever care that they don't live in a mansion and get everything brand new. They'll ALWAYS remember that their mom was always there for them. I hope she gets approved soon! And it would be even more awesome if you guys would get backed SSI from the time she was born until she gets approved. My fingers will be crossed for you guys

I think she is just trying to do what is best for her child! Taking care of a baby with DS can be extremely difficult and stressful, even as they get older. Some people aren't able to do, what if one of those people is the childcare she chooses and her baby is neglected? There is a lot to consider besides living paycheck to paycheck

I see a lot wrong with it...but like you said, it's not my business. I've never had to worry about Student loans.

Honestly, people can say whatever they want, they might think it's selfish, but I would definitely stay home in your situation. It's not ideal to live paycheck to paycheck, but if you are meeting their needs for right now especially while she is so young, I think it's more important that you are physically with her. Even if things are tight, there's always a way to make do. So what if everything you buy can't be brand new.... love and support and providing a stable homelife is more important than material possessions.
