OMG I think DS has diabetes!!! I'm in a panic!!!

my son is 9 and has been having anxiety.. also all things listed below.
1. Increased thirst.
2. Increased urination.
3. Breath that smells sweet and like fruit.
4. Constant hunger.
5.anxiety

he has had them for a while too... I took him to doc when he was 4 b/c I thought he had UTI he was going so much. He craves cold water will suck on ice all day. and has told me the never feels full that he is hungry all the time. I'm really scared!
any mama's out there that can offer so advice?

DH found out he had diabetes at 18. He was literally peeing every half hour, drinking non-stop.. it was insane! His sugar was 550 when he found out. 6 years later he's lost weight and no need for medicine anymore!

If you're worried, take him in.

Take him to a doctor. He could go into a diabetic coma if you dont.

Sweet breath is a common indicator for diabetes, so i'd take him to get tested.

My friend wad about 6 when she was diagnosed. She had all of those symptoms and randomly passed out one day. They took her to the er, and had they waited any longer she wouldve died.

Better safe than sorry and get him checked out.

schedule an appt, it's the only way to know for sure. the breath thing is rare though, so sounds like it to me. i've never smelled it, but was told it smells like juicy fruit gum.

When SO was diagnosed with type 1 these were his symptoms:
*dramatic weight loss in a short amount of time
*increased urination
*moody as hell (seriously, man PMS on steroids)

That was it really. I'm sorry I'm not more help. Go have his checked out or go buy a cheap tester and test strips and check his blood sugar.

SO found out 7 months ago, his numbers were 610/+14.
Was he insulin dependent?

my son is really depressed almost he keeps telling me he feels weird and doesn't know what is wrong.   it just brakes my heart.. I want him to feel happy ya know..

OH my goodness!! No, he was on Metformin. He has type 2. His parents fed him nothing but fried/frozen/fast food growing up so it's no wonder!

those where a lot of the same symptoms my friend had, but the main thing for him was his legs hurting for a few days and then going numb, he couldn't walk! When he went to the hospital he was seriously this | | close to going into diabetic comma!! He was 10 years old when he found out!

My advice? Get him seen ASAP! My sister has diabetes and by the time she was finally diagnosed her blood sugar was in the 600's! She was just hours away from a diabetic coma.
