Group B strep

posted 28th May
Has anyone else tested positive for group b strep. I just got my test results today and they were positive. I didn't know much about it but of course started looking it up right away. Now I am scared something is going to happen during birth. Has anyone who tested positive delivered their babies yet. Was there any problems. I know the chances of the baby getting the infection at birth is low if the mother is given meds during labor but it still scares the shit out of me. I started to cry when I found out what it could cause to the baby. How do you even get it? I am just really upset cause things have been going so good and now this will be on my mind from here on out.

Yes, I've had Group B with my daughter when she was born.. You'll find it's very common and it comes and goes in women.. All they'll do is hook you up to an antibiotic drip when you get your IV when you go into labor.. Then they might keep you and extra day for observation for both you and the baby but you seriously don't have much to worry about assuming you're a regularly healthy individual.. It's only dangerous in third world countries and the like where medical attention is primitive.. No worries

Yes, I tested positive and all they did was hook me up to an IV with Penicillan in the hospital when I first got there and everything was fine. Just do NOT go to www.webmd.com for ANYTHING - I did and regretted it because it worried me SICK with everything it was saying on Strep-B and other ailments that developed during the duration of my pregnancy.......

Testing positive is very common and not anything you could have avoided, either.

I had it with both my boys and I'm allergic to penicillin so I got clindamycin instead. Don't stress yourself out about it and if you can't get it out of your head just ask your doctor about it at your next visit. I think my hubby asked every visit he went to with me with our first
