See above. The dog wasn't acting crazy, he was the pack leader and if I recall correctly, the most dominant members eat their share of the kill first. It's no wonder he wasn't going to back down, his nature wouldn't have it.

Believe me. NOTHING is stupid-proof. It shouldn't be the zoo's responsibility to police the parents. If you act like an idiot like this woman did you deserve to get eaten. Unfortunately her child and one dog paid the price for her.

Probably not. These are apex predators that can take down beasts three times their size. Their jaws can crush bones. There's no way a large pack would be intimidated by a person.in general.

Although since all but the leader did back down when the zoo-keepers came, there could have been a chance .

But that's on the mom and dad who did nothing.

[snip!] ... like a bitch to be attacked by these dogs, but an adult would most likely survive an attack, depending on how long it lasted."</blockquote>

No. No, an adult would NOT survive. These are not like pets that play too rough. I really thing the name "dogs" is misleading. These guys are more like the canine version of a hyena.

<blockquote><b>Quoting Derpy Hooves:</b>" They should really change that exhibit out. Not kill the dogs. Relocate them where they won't be recognizable ... [snip!] ... be respectful of the deceased. Stupid morbid rubber neckers won't visit the Pittsburgh Zoo looking for the dogs that did it."</blockquote>

People shouldn't lose the opportunity to view these animals just because someone got killed. As horrible as that was, the dogs are part of a special breeding program and no other zoo might be equipped to carry that on.

Plus it would be distressing for them. They've already lost a pack-member, that's hard enough.

I read about that. Luckily no one was hurt and the zoo rectified that issue.

And they're ALL either really stupid, or just workIng up the nerve to let go;-)

Yeah, she LOST her child. Just like Casey Anthony.

Oh come on. You act like this mother purposely let go of her child so he'd fall & get mauled by the dogs.

Quit acting so mighty & realize that accidents DO happen. Yes, this is a rather large accident, but that doesn't mean she did it on purpose.

I think the big thing is is that its being said that she put him up there and turned around.

Like I said before....I think she should be charged. Smurf I was charged for something I didnt do and wasnt even around when it happened to my son. Think thats fair? Smurf no it isnt.

Where is this speculation at? Link?

Id rather be dead than live with that nightmare playing over and over in my head hearing my DD scream as she died would be unbearable seeing her be killed...i'd already be dead inside. Plus maybe I could shelter my DD long enough for help to come I couldn't just sit there watching my child die.. I would have to do something
