be allowed to have money in savings? Assistance meaning anything from WIC to cash aid. Any kind or amount of assistance.

i dont think its fair they expect people to give up basic rights bc they are poor and need help. i think its smart to have a little money in savings but i guess if you have money in savings you can buy food.

Saving 5 bucks aside a month/week does not mean they can afford all of their groceries/rent.

if your on cash assistance no, but the others I think you should. In colo you can have up to 2000 in savings but it counts against you as income

I have savings kinda lol and I get wic. I still work 40hrs a week though. At least here in Florida, pregnant, have a child under 4, or lost a baby, you still get wic, no matter how much money you make.

I thought cash assistance qualification was based on income as well as assets.

Is that not correct?

It depends on how much. $100 in savings is different from $10,000 in savings.

A couple hundred dollars in a savings account isn't going to make an impact to a family in need, but thousands of dollars......that could and should be used to provide for your family, in a temporary time of need.

Then what if something happens to them or their kids? If they were smart enough to put back money, they deserve to keep that money.

Even if its 10 bucks a week, that adds up over time. And 10 bucks a week is not going to pay for groceries.

Should people on assistance be allowed to be responsible with money? Hell yes. I wish it could be required.
