reg doc or derm?

posted 5th Nov
Ok so DH has what looked to be a pimple on his nose, it has been there for at least 3 months now and no longer looks like a pimple. I am worried about it and want him to see a doc because I am scared it might be skin cancer or something, and its getting bigger. Would you go to a regular doc for it to start with or a dermatologist?

Depending on your insurance, you might have to start with your regular Doctor, then have him/her refer you to the specialist.

I already called insurance and I don't need a referral I just don't know which to start with because either way he would be a new patient since we don't have a regular doc.

Depending on the size of your city and availability it sometimes is a little harder to get into a derm doc than a regular doc.

So if you're anxious and want an answer asap, I'd say regular doctor.

But if you have the patience, I'd go for a derm doc.

Either way, both of them will probably do a culture of the "pimple" and probably check his WBC if he's had any kind of fever.

Good luck mama!

Well I just called the only derm that takes our insurances within an hour drive and they aren't taking new patients until january. i really would rather get him in sooner because its already been there long enough and I just talked him into letting me make and appt. So i guess it will have to be a regular dr. now that is going to be fun to find, I have been looking since our other doc left 2 years ago and haven't found one that will take our ins or if they do they aren't taking new patients.

thanks

If all else fails you could probably bring him into an after hours clinic. They usually have the same amount of copay as a doctor and will probably do the same tests I mentioned in my other post. Only downside to an after hours is that it might be a little hard to get results.

Well if you cant find anyone close. Lima Memorial has a new Clinic in Ottawa, which I think is close to 45 mins for you. And they take walk ins, its nice, clean, and the wait time is minimal. They accept people as regular patients as well and you can make an appt.

I might have to check that out! Thank you
