IEHP vs Molina for insurance in California

posted 5th Nov
So my kids are eligible for full medi-cal and today I got a packet in the mail to sign them up on IEHP or Molina. I was on IEHP in high school, my oldest was on IEHP for a few months but they wouldn't cover his surgery so we put him on my husband's insurance and got his surgery done. Now we are getting both boys on it to cut what gets taken from DH's paycheck(since we really need the money right now) but I don't know which to choose.

Molina: I get to keep the kid's same doctor, who I like.

IEHP: Have to change doctors

However I don't know if either one is any better in regards to anything. I had serious issues with IEHP with my son and I doubt anything like that will come up again but I don't want to deal with it if it does.

I don't know how dental plans are on either(if their is one?) and have sort of neglected to take DS1 and he is nearly two:/

Here they won't see kids till 3... And it's on regular Medicaid here we have 2 dental plans but I left my son on Medicaid for dental.

No idea how medi-caid works. Here we have medi-cal which is open to anyone who qualifies then there is medicare for seniors. Though for medi-cal we get shipped off to pick a plan from Molina or IEHP unless we meet other qualifiers that we can stay on medi-cal.

It is recommended to have their teeth checked when their first tooth comes in or at one year old. My husband's dentist told him to not worry until the kids start getting permanent teeth, and that is what he did with his kids:/

IEHP! They are GREAT! They are awesome. They had a representative come to my house once a week for three weeks to explain the benefits of IEHP. They see my kids with in the week for shots/physicals and they see my kids with in 24-36 hours if they are sick. Their dental plans are great. They let me choose a pedatric dental office oppose to the all age dental office whom aren't so patient with my very dramatic 4yr old son. Personally, I LOVE IEHP. Never had any problems with them, ever.

I had a lot of issues with IEHP not wanting to cover services with my oldest. Not to mention refusing to work with me. Their current doctor isn't on IEHP anyway so I would have to find a new doctor.

I think I am going to go with Molina since that is what their doctor is on. I just wanted to see if other mom's had an opinion on either one.
