does stripping membranes work to bring on labor?

at my 38 week appointment on friday I was 2cm dilated & 50% effaced.My doc stripped my membranes and cramping hasn't stopped since then.was stripping membranes successfull for you?also what are some things to help bring labor on a little faster if my body is ready?what worked for you?

it did for me. but some girls get it done many times and it doesnt. I think if your body is ready it will work..But if it isnt then it wont. It all depends!

walking helps, sometimes stripping the membranes ends at cramping. dont get to excited. just relax, go for a walk, try and stay busy. if labor is going to come that will help (stairs help push you even farther)

Had them stripped three times. Last time at my 39 week apt. I had DD at 41 weeks. I'm gonna have to say a big negative. Does not always work.

My doctor told me pretty much if your body is debating on whether or not to go into labor, stripping your membranes gives your body a push in the yes direction. If your body isn't quite ready, stripping wont do smurf.

I was 39 weeks, 3cm & 70% effaced. I lost my mucus plug & had a lot of cramps. I tried walking, sex, bumpy car rides & no luck for me :/ baby's due date is three days away. If I'm still pregnant by thursday my OB will do another sweep. Hopefully it works this time around! Good luck though

I'm hoping I go into labor on my own before Thursday! I hope the sweep gives you results

My dr did it to me when I was 37 wks because I was being induced due to pre e. for me it was very painful! I think it was because my body was so not ready to have a baby.

im going to be 38 wks on monday,im already 5cm dialated,and 90% effaced,and doc is going to strip my membranes,been to the hospital twice with contractions,but sent home because they werent strong enough,my other deliveries were induced and came very quickly,my daughter was 13 days early,she came very fast after they broke my water,im a little nervous about have this procedure done ,worrying it wont do nothing,hoping someone out there has gone thru this and had a good experiance,im just ready for her to be out sick of having these annoying contractions that last for a couple of hours and then stops
