Is there any way to get DH to the gym?

posted 5th Nov
He said he wanted to start working out last year, so we bought the $200 xbox kinect so he could do the work out on there. Well, he did it once and was so sore (because he hasn't worked out since high school baseball 13 years ago) from it that he didn't even try again. I'm still a little pissed we spend so much money on that thing and it doesn't even get used, hopefully when LO is a bit older it will at least. Anyway, that's not my point, lol. I just joined the YMCA and signed up my family, mainly so I could get LO babysat for free while I work out. There's one that's less than 5 miles from our house that he could use. He just doesn't want to. He's not really over weight or anything but he has a few health issues (mainly digestive system). I work out 5 days a week and love it. I just want him to be healthy and happy and he's expressed wanting to work out, just not at a gym apparently. That's not a problem except that he doesn't work out at home either, for whatever reason. How can I get him to go to the fricken gym?! I'm not desperate, lol, but I just wish he would since he wants to but just won't for whatever reason.

Unfortunately, you can't. He either wants to or not. And I think he's made his choice...when you have the the resources and still not do it...what else can you do to make them do it?

The only thing I can think of...is join the military...where working out is part of the job. lol.

He apparently doesn't care that much and/or lacks motivation to do anything about it. I would just tell him that you want him to go with you at least a few days a week to help keep you motivated.

I'm gonna be going through the same thing with my DH afte I have this baby. We both need to tone up a bit, and I am really worried about his health. He already has pre-hypertension, and he is only 28. Plus there are so many health risks that run in his family, and alot of young deaths due to heart problems, and cancer. He refuses to go to a gym, but says he doesnt have time to work out at home. Which is funny to me, since he has time to watch tv and be on the computer for hours. One thing I want to look into is buying a couple bikes, and get the baby seats for the back, so we can go on bike rides. Also does your area have any sort of nature walks or anything? I'm trying to find ways to make excersizing a family event, and fun so he will do it with me lol.

Ask him if he will be your workout partner.

Maybe he's self conscious? You're not going to get him to go if he doesn't want to. My father tried taking me to the gym from the time when I was 9 years old to 14 and I would either play in the kids' area or sit on the couch and read magazines lol.

I might ask him if he'd do that. Our work schedules are opposite and I always to before work at 6 am but tuesdays and wednesdays I have to be to work early and can't work out, maybe I could convince him to go with me after dinner or something. And yeah, he lacks motivation, and he and I know it, and after a few years it's really starting to get to me (not just no motivation for exercising, other things too).

I think that's part of it, I mean, not in day to day occurences, but just at the GYM. Like I said, he hasn't ever been to a gym since high school, I can understand it being a little over whelming.

I just looked at the hours, and they have the child watch till 8 pm during the week! I'm going to try and bring it up, but I'm afraid he'll just immediately say no. We'll see.

I should tell Kyle to try to get him to work out lol!! Kyle runs like 5 miles a day every day and does P90x. At first he wa lazy about it but he gradually started doing it and now he enjoys it! Maybe Brian just needs a little push!

That's why I let him get the kinect, even though we were trying to save money, lol! We'll see. At least I'm getting a 50% discount at the Y and it means Colt can use the pool.
