zoloft vs prozac for ppd

posted 5th Nov
Finally bit the bullet and made an appt to see my ob/gyn about getting medicated for this smurf. I won't go into details, if you've ever had ppd you know how it feels, and I'm just tired of it. I've been skating by for months (DD is 5 months) waiting on it to go away, and I just can't do this anymore. I want to feel normal again, I want to be happy and ENJOY my child, not resent waking up in the morning.
My Dr tried to put me on zoloft when DD was about 5 weeks old, but I didn't take it. I was still BFing then, and I just didn't want to be "strung out" on anything. But now I'm rethinking that decision.
I've read some bad things about zoloft, about it causing insomnia, which is one of my major problems right now. I don't think I can handle anything that is going to take away what little sleep I get. I have a script for ambien, but I'm scared to take it, I don't want to be zonked if DD wakes up at night. (she still wakes at least once a night to be fed)
I'm wondering what you ladies took, and how did it affect you? I'm mainly concerned about how it affects your sleep patterns. I know meds like this can affect different people different ways, I'm mostly interested in zoloft vs prozac. How did it affect you? Can you sleep? How long did it take to adjust? Which one worked better for you? I'm just trying to get as much info as I can before my appt tomorrow morning.
Thanks in advance.

I was told zoloft is better if you are breastfeeding.

My milk dried up when DD was about 12 weeks old. (yet another thing contributing to my feelings of worthlesness; can't even do THAT right) She's been FF since then.

If you aren't breastfeeding, I would use the prozac. It worked better for me. I want to nurse, so I am going to try the zoloft after he is born.

I'm on it for ocd, anxiety and depression. I felt not change with the zoloft and sometimes I even felt worse (sad). I have been on prozac for a little over 2 weeks and I can feel it slowly working.

I've been on both and I don't prefer either. I find Prozac to be worse as far as what it does for my depression. It made my anxiety worse, which made my suicidal thoughts more prevalent. I couldn't sleep well while taking it and my sleep schedule wasn't a problem before. With Zoloft I gained weight which I was upset about but that's about it as far as negative side effects I experienced. It didn't help end my depression or make it worse.

I took Zoloft in high school for my depression, not post pardum depression. I don't know if there is any difference. I just stopped taking Prozac though.
