Furs, Furry, Furry Fandom. Advice?!

So I need to talk to somebody that is interested in the above title.

My 17 year old brother is well into this furry thing. Which tbh.. is absolutely fine. He is only young etc.. however this isn't something he goes and come back too.. he has it on their twitter account which constantly buzzes him every minute of the day with other "furs" talking.. I'm concerned its developing into more than a hobby and not an alter ego anymore but that he actually believes he is an animal.

He has cyber tiger sex too. Its just.. all very new to me. I'm not judging I'm trying to keep an open mind. But it IS different.

Like I say my main concern is that its being used in all hours of the day. I'd just like somebody to talk to me more about it. He draws tiger pictures in their spare time and decorates his body with tiger stripes. ... yes. Can somebody talk to me about this, explain it maybe?

Any furs on babygaga?!

I'm not a furry, but I've seen people in the fandom. Yes, it is really weird, and there's nothing to explain why people go to it.

BUT the good news is, it's not caused by, nor does it lead to any social problems, disorders, or mental issues.

The people I know that go to furry conventions and everything are usually very well adjusted, awesome and friendly people. They don't want to have sex with animals or anything...they're just sexually attracted to OTHER people that are interested in animals.

It's really nothing to worry about, but as to what led him to it, I don't think there's really an answer to that!

Its just hard to get my head around, it is really bizzare.

I stumbled across his twitter by accident yesterday where he labels himself as a 17 year old white tiger... and asked him about it all.

He explained it like he was a Furry. That is nothing to crazy just like his friend is an "emo" and his other one is a "goth" .. it made me wonder if perhaps he just wanted to fit somewhere and label himself something...

anyway I'd be less concerned if it wasn't going off in his pocket with his phone every 10 minutes.

I'm like.. fascinated by his twitter now. he doesn't realise I can still see it without following him.. but I can see he wakes up and goes on straight away tagging all of his friends all "I roar across the land and wake all my fellow animals up" and "this tiger is hungry" "this tiger is tired" blah blah blah.. like.. constantly talking like he IS a tiger.

*sigh* ha :/. If he could just... log on in the morning and at night or whatever.. but yea.. all access.. all day.. constantly indulging and I can't help but be worried. He has begged me not to tell anyone so I wont. I really want to talk to Mom about it.. but he has asked me not too and I don't want to embarrass him or make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Just.. yeah concerned.

Lol yeah when he tried to explain it because I had NEVER heard about it before apart from in csi episode I had to ask him all these crazy questions like.. "do you get turned on by tigers?" "do you want to have sex with a tiger?"

It's getting more common. Like you said, maybe he just wants to identify with something and your typical cliques just don't interest him.

He's a 17 year old boy. He'd be online constantly anyway, haha. I know it's odd that he's doing this and adopting this personality, but I'd be afraid of making him ashamed of it.

Have you seen gag or parody twitters? It's kind of the same thing. He's just adopting a personality on the internet to get views from like-minded people.

I'm sure he's a great kid, and if you couldn't tell how into it he was until you found the twitter, I wouldn't say it was that big of a deal!

True! Though after he told me about it I remembered all these signs like him drawing tiger stripes up his arm and I was just like.. "why?!" because he did it when he was bored at college but then obviously had to walk home like that.

Mom bought him a tiger onesie for his birthday as his birthday is in winter and they are warm.. not realising obviously about this fur thing.. or even particularly that he liked tigers... pure coincidence.. I imagine it made his day. Lol
