Well I have a son! Birth story

I went into labor on Saturday at 6:30. Got to the hospital around 9 an my contractions were pretty intense. DS's heart rate was not making any acelerations but I was checked and was a -3 station 80% effaced and 4 cm dialated. We were admitted and hooked up again to Continuois fetal monitor (you har to be monitored for 20 minutes at my hospital. ) unfortunately ds heart rate went up to the 190s but was finally having accelerations so try couldn't let me off the monitors which made it really difficult to use my natural childbirth techniques. Couldn't get any IV drugs bc of his heart rate so tried the laughing gas available. It helped for a while but my contractions were right on top of each other... I talked with my nurse and midwife and they said unfortunately they prob wouldn't be able to let me off the monitors. So I opted to get an epidural. Man that thing was smurffy. It took forever to place, and helped with the pain in my back but there was still overwhelming pressure on my cervix. Sometime in there they had noticed I was running a fever so they had me on antibiotics and Tylenol to bring my fever down. And i couldnt tell if my water broke or if i was peein on myself so i got a cathter so o could try to relax more. I kept telling the nurse my epidural wasn't working and I didn't know whether or not the button for "breakthrough pain" was giving me medicine or not. The bitch nurse told me I was pressing the button too much. (well duh! Bc it's not working!) anyways I only had the epidural for about an hr and got checked again and was 5.5 cm 90% effaced and at a -2 station. I was so excited I thought I should sit up to get gravity on my side. That was a big mistake! All of a sudden baby's heart rate dropped to the 60s and I had a million doctors come in and freak out and one made me sign a form that said they had gone over the risks and benefits of a c section with me. But after I was back on my side the baby went back to normal.. Well normal for that day. Then I almost got bullied into a c section by mostly my nurse saying things like "your baby has a uterine infection and is getting worse" (they had already told me they didn't think it was an infection, and even tho they got a positive amniotic fluid test strip when they checked me my water hadn't even broken yet.) "your baby's heart rate is way too high, most hospitals wouldn't let you labor for more than one hr like that and we have given you 3, your baby just isn't tolerating labor" (even though earlier they said that that wasn't an indication that he wasn't taking labor well or a sign that he was in distress, they just said they would have to monitor it just in case) & ect.
They asked me if I wanted to elect to get the c section or they could talk to the doctors.. I didn't consent so they came back and one doctor said it wasn't a problem and they came back and told me what he said but they were going to get a second opinion from the other doctor. Then came back and said that the other doctor thinks its time for a c section and after both doctors talked they all agreed that I should get a c section. (another lie ugh)
Then they kept badgering me and I kept asking them if I could just wait an hr to which they told me "your baby is sick, don't you want to do what's best for your baby?" I finally told them to do whatever they thought needed to be done. They told me it had to be a yes or no answer so I was like "yeah sure whatever! Yes I want the c section!" so the nurse is like I'll go tell them and then turns around and says "are you sure? I don't want you to say that and then change your mind" (seriously wtf!) anyways they started prepping me for surgery.. And I could feel most of my right side again by this point so they were trying to give me enough of some kind of meds that would make it where I couldn't feel my right side. I was still pissed I was going into surgery. Well my little boy showed the medical staff up too. Wishing 15 minutes of prepping me his heart rate went down to around 140 do the Ob said he thought we should wait and see what happens so I labored some more for like 2 hrs and it was miserable bc I was all numb and it was like up to my armpits bc they gave me so much and I was having problems breathing so I was on oxygen and it was stuffing up my nose and drying my mouth up too much. Unfortunately baby's heart rate snuck up there again and he wasn't showing accelerations anymore. They checked me again and I hadn't progressed any at all and the baby didn't respond to the check when they touch their heads.. This time the on came in and explained that too me and I knew it was time to go to csection. But I could move my whole right leg again and was getting a lot of feeling in my left too. I begged them to knock me out bc I hated that feeling. Nope. They did wait a little bit in between giving me doses tho and it ended up being a lot better. Where I could still feel my feet but not what was going on. I thought they were still discussing where they were gonna be cutting into me for a while just rubbing on my stomach until I heard they were about to make a uterine incision! The midwife that had taken over for the other one that had been with me all night was so encouraging an the doctors were really great too. They said we could still do delayed cord clamping (which they ended up not doing for too long.. Just a few seconds while they suctioned him bc he had meconium in the water. ) and they said they might do skin to skin (but bc he pooped so much they wrapped him up and just laid him on my chest for a while.) then SO went with DS to go to the nursery where they have him a bath and took his stats. He was born at 7:38 11/4/12 8 lbs 8 oz and 21 1/4 inches long!   oh and then the weirdest thing about my csection was hearing what sounded like a giant carpenters staple gun and the Ob talking about how they were staples that didn't have to be removed, and that he was excited vandy was using all those new things. And becoming more baby friendly too!
Unfortunately the next day they took little DS for tests and they do think I had an infection of some kind and he has it do he's being monitored in theNICU for a while and on antibiotics. Besides the pain of my incision I'm doing well and hopefully DS will be doing well soon too!

Aww I'm sorry for such the smurffy labor, but congrats!!!  
I hope he starts to be getting better soon and they find out what's wrong.
