I wouldn't say bust your ass but the threat puts there scare in.

It's not something I would say. But I can see how someone would, and I think there are worse things to say. The biggest problem I see is if the child offends again it would (hopefully) be an empty promise, which would leave the words of the parent less effective in the future.

I dont think cussing at one saying bust your ass is right, but telling them you are going to spank them, i dont see a problem with it.

to each their own.. i dont see a huge problem with it. sometimes that stuff comes out in the heat of the moment

Sorry to burst that bubble, but it's not "illegal". ABUSE is illegal, but disciplining your child isn't. Even if it were illegal.. how many people would take that seriously?

The parent who used the term "bust your ass" needs to realize that it's in the TONE, not the WORDS. The threat holds nothing without the tone, and a phrase like "bust your ass" means nothing to a 5yr old lol. I'm sure when they said it, they narrowed their eyes, gritted their teeth a bit, and used a harsh tone. THAT'S what keeps the kid in line, not the threat of being hit.

I prefer not to curse at them. I always tell them "I'll put the toast to ya head."

I am a non spanking parent and I say it to my kids all the time, or I will beat your ass etc......

They know I dont and never will, so I guess it depends really if they do.

I wouldn't want someone to yell at me and threaten to bust my ass... So, I wouldn't do it to my boys.

1. The wording is completely inappropriate. I think it's trashy to swear at your children.

2. It is completely hypocritical. "If you hit, I will hit you"....what the hell?

Depending where you are from here in Canada in aug or sept they banned spanking in any form what-so-ever and you will get your child taken away or be charged with abuse if done in public and someone calls or at home and someone calls.
