Endoscopy/Colonoscopy

posted 4th Nov
I'm going on Thursday for a Endoscopy and a Colonoscopy.
Due to my history an anxiety and depression my doctor has opted for me to have general anesthesia for the procedure.
I am terrified about being put under.
I don't know what to expect about the procedure itself, let alone the process of being put under.

Any words of wisdom or encouragement are appreciated!

Just took my mom in for her colonoscopy, and she had no problems. She was not under general, but was under that twilight stuff and did not remember one thing. She had no pain what so ever, and was completely back to normal within 24 hrs. Her side effects were that she was really bloated after the procedure (due to the clean air they pump inside you), and exhausted. So, she took some anti gas and came home and slept. Once she slept for about 6 hours and was able to pass gas, she was really hungry and was practically normal. It was a pretty easy procedure!

I've been put under two tines before and I dont think its too bad, the first time all I could remember is counting down from ten then getting up in an elevator on a hospital bed.

See, I'm terrified of waking up and not knowing where I am.

I was under for my endoscopy and had no problems other than SO going to on ER drivers because they left me in the snow uncover with just my gown on. But I was fine I was pretty knocked for a few hours after I got back to my room. But all in all it was good.

I've had an endoscopy twice (2009 & 2012). The worse part is not being able to eat or drink. Whatever sedative they give knocks you out almost immediately (well it did me). I don't remember anything when I woke up.

How did you feel afterwards? Did your throat hurt or anything?

I'm going to be completely under and they're going to do both procedures. It says it takes about an hour.
I took the next day off of work too but I'm not sure if I will need it or not..

I agree with everyone else. Not eating and drinking that crud is the worse part.

I had my first when I was 15 and now have to have one every 5 years because they found polyps, no biggie though really. Your throat might be a little sore and you will feel bloated from all the air they put in to expand. Otherwise its a fairly quick and easy procedure, IMO.

Personally...I love the feeling of drifting off with the anesthesia
