That's why I asked her. And, help is help whether it be physical or financial and here, most teen moms are on one form of assistance or another.

I don't remember ever reading anything stating teens and teen moms are the only ones getting assistance.

I didn't say the only ones. Though, they are more likely to need government help.

Can teens even get assistance? I thought you had to be at least 18 (so, still a teen but legally an adult)

Nope. I couldn't even get it at 18 while living with my mom, because if you live with a parent they're responsible for you until 22.

Oh see here if you are living with a parent you can get it under the age of 18-19, but the money comes in your parents name as a trustee (sp?) If you are obligated to pay rent to them. And its under other certain cirumnstances, but its a process.

If you are under those ages and your parents kick you out, you have to be living with someone over the age of 19 to recieve it for you as a trustee(sp?) lol

But in general you can not recieve it under 18-19 cant exactly remember the age. Parents are only obligated to care for you till 18.

In saying that, I think this applies to all mums. No matter the age, we all need a support system. Financials is important, but emotional support is equally as important, IMO.

That's true, although personally it'd be way easier for me to lend any kind of support to my grown child than it would be to say, a 15 year old child of mine that decided to have a baby. Because he wouldn't be dropping out of school on my watch, college would still be happening. That would mean I'd be doing a lot of the work to care for the baby. More work than a regular grandparent would.

I think I might resent that a bit. I didn't want another baby, but there I would be doing a majority of the daycare, or paying for alternate daycare, buying supplies, raising my own kids- that wouldn't really be fair to me and I'm sure it would take its toll in some way on my relationship with my own child.

That's just another thing that's way more likely to happen with a teen parent.

Yes, all moms need support- but some- will need much, much, more and I think that can be applied to the vast majority of teen parents. Some may do it entirely on their own, but that is just not the rule.
