too soon?

posted 4th Nov
I am also googling while posting this. But is it even possible to be aware of an ectopic pregnancy if you were to be 5 weeks?

I feel like my friend is just really over reacting at this point. Don't bash on me for saying that but she's a super hypochondriac. I feel she should go see a doctor, but Im not sure if she really needs to go into the ER and rack up a huge bill when she could just see a doctor tomorrow. She said she's been feeling dizzy, light headed, nauseous and fatigued for about 3 weeks now. Last week she claims that she had a thick black/red clotty discharge, along with increasing abdominal pain as time goes by. Today she's saying she feels extremely dizzy like when you stand up too fast at random times. Also got a positive on a test.

I'm not a good judge of these things in the least bit and she's askikng my advice. So I figured I'd go to the almighty BG doctors.

At 5 weeks, the baby could be anywhere really. There isn't normally much to see on an U/S. To me, it sounds like normal early pregnancy stuff, but she can always call her dr and see if he wants her to get seen earlier rather than waiting.

She thinks its ectopic because she has been having normal pregnancy symptoms? Yes, it is possible to be aware of an ectopic pregnancy but it wouldn't be symtoms like that, she would be in horrible pain or none at 5 weeks. I was 12 wks with my ectopic and didn't feel a thing.

She thinks it could be an ectopic bcfause of the thick black discharge, and abdominal pain.

I'm going to stand by my first reaction of telling her to wait until tomorrow.

She should definitely wait. Her OB will be better prepared to help and diagnose than an ER dr. Also, if this has been ongoing for a few weeks, sounds like it definitely does not necessitate a trip to the ER

Yeah, I think it would be absurd to think it was eptopic. It is common to bleed that early in pregnancy. It could even be a sign of miscarrage. But at 5 wks all they would do is and ultrasound and bloodwork. The utrasound would not show anything at 5 wks gestation and to see her hcg lvl she would have to keep getting tested to see if they go up. I guess if it would put her mind at ease, go in. It will probably just make her more worried then she was before hand though......Although I felt no pain with my ectopic everyone I know that has felt or had it burst was in intense pain from the rupture, like wanting to call and ambulance pain. Then again, I have never felt the pain so I cant say for sure.

Thank you ladies. I felt like I was being mean or uncaring with my thought on it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks she should wait.

When I was 5 weeks and went to the ER for heavy bleeding, they tried to tell me I had an ectopic pregnancy according to the ultrasound and had me sit there for hours crying before the on call OB can see the scans. and of course, the ER was WRONG. Unless she is doubled over in pain, I don't think she should worry about an ectopic pregnancy. All of those are normal pregnancy symptoms, including menstrual like cramping.
