“We have allowed ourselves to conflate weight with health so many times that we fail to realize when we are sacrificing our health in order to focus on weight.” - Cat Pausé

Bonus:
I love this kind of dancing. It seems to celebrate a diverse range of body sizes.

Those who neglect their health in order to focus on weight loss are not doing it for the right reasons and probably taking short cuts.

People should be focusing on health FIRST and the weight will fall off naturally, as the body intends it to. 9 times out of 10, if a person lives a genuinely healthy lifestyle, weight loss will occur or weight will be maintained.

I have a complaint thread for this kind of stuff.   But I will briefly address it.

Unhealthy lifestyles make you unhealthy. Weight in and of itself does not, though there is a correlational link to health and body weight, the studies do not establish causal relationships. We must also take into account that the same diseases that fat people get also afflict thin people. Another interesting fact is that fat people who have internalized fat hate/stigma have more health problems than fat women who have accepted their size.

That being said, this quote really isn't declaring fat people healthy... it is merely addressing the notion that weight loss by any means necessary loses sight of health in order to obtain a certain body size. Wouldn't you agree that certain weight loss methods are not really sought after to gain health?

I think this picture is beautiful and it celebrates individuality and self-confidence. People come in all shapes and sizes I can easily admire any and all if I choose to, and I do. She might be a little heavy but to look at her she appears to be a skilled dancer which takes time, effort, and commitment--good for her!

I'm not complaining. Go on and be as obese as people want to be. I find nothing beautiful about that picture. I find nothing true about the quote.

The quote makes sense because many people who think they are overweight actually aren't; however the woman in the picture may have health issues.

I see some validity in the quote (although I am against being "comfortable" being obese, and believe people should strive towards health). I think that women will resort to surgeries, pills, shots, etc to try to have a quick fix for cosmetic reasons, as opposed to being healthy in general. It's an "easy" way out .

I agree with this, except that the weight doesn't always leave in a manner that we would like it to, even though healthier metabolic functioning occurs. People obtain better health readings by becoming more active and by changing their diets to a more wholesome selection. Health isn't a requirement, but I feel, for me, it is of great importance.

But working on your weight, no matter what means, is better than being "Fat and happy."

I obviously don't think it's okay to be anorexic/bulimic.. I don't know how to explain what I mean in words. I just don't understand how someone can be okay with being obese. It's mind blowing to me. I was morbidly obese and I was miserable. I wasn't accepting of that smurf at all.

I respect your opinion, but I can honestly say that I do not believe that most people want to be or aspire to be obese (with a few exceptions such a feeders).

You don't think they want to be? Isn't that contradicting your whole fat and happy thing? Being happy with something is wanting it.

That's a little rude don't you think? How would you feel if someone said the same about your picture?

? Am I not allowed an opinion? Didn't the poll ask our opinion? If people don't like my picture, that's fine. That's their opinion. I'm not making a poll asking what people think of my picture.
