"Hey everybody! Come over here and bring me presents!" LMBO!   Too funny. I have had a smurffy night. Thanks for the laugh.

ugh yeah.... super tacky.

ive NEVER heard of that, let alone seen it done. tacky and trashy.

a gift is a gift... you should NEVER ask, nor throw your own party, nor expect things given to you.

and im vehemently against "2nd...3rd...4th..." etc, baby showers.

Exactly. I'm all for parties to celebrate a pregnancy but a baby shower is what it is. A gift grab. I'd never plan my own.

It's tacky in my opinion because a baby shower is implied to have gifts. To me it is like give me, give me.

Me too! Unless it's a different gender or it's been more than 5 years since the last baby lol

No. shower = shower with love and good wishes.

Traditionally, no. If that was the case, no one would bring gifts and mothers wouldn't create registries.

I mean yeah they do that too, and that could be an alternative. But that isn't the traditional meaning of having a shower.

The way I see it, a lot has changed. And baby showers have evolved and are not as black and white as they were before. I mean, men didn't go to them before, and now they do...I've gone to baby showers where the mother didn't ask for gifts other than a book from each/guest family (used or new)... I went to baby shower where the parents just had a book at the party and wanted everyone to write down advice for baby. I have also received invitations where someone is hosting a babyshower for someone else and specifically asked for gift cards, now that to me is even tacky. A shower can mean different things to different people...times have changed.

I think it's tacky when people announce every week or so what they need instead of just registering somewhere or being happy with whatever.

Quoting Live-Laugh-Love:" Nobody is forcing you to go though so you arent really depending on or expecting anything...especially ... [snip!] ... if you throw it for yourself. Imo it is less tacky to throw your own shower than to expect someone to throw it for you."

Baby showers can be expensive so I don't see why a mother can't throw one herself, it's not like the people are going to bring gifts that are for HER they're for her baby, so she's pretty much throwing a celebration for her baby to be and asking that people bring that baby a gift if they would like to attend. I don't see how it would be tacky. =/

I don't see how it's tacky.
I thought of my baby shower as more of a celebration of new life coming...
I also don't think 2nd 3rd baby showers for different babies are bad either.
It's not ALL about the gifts.
It's a reason for family and friends to get together
PLUS, it doesn't HAVE to be expensive unless you make it be.

i pretty much threw my shower, no shame in my game. i had soo much clothes already given to me before my shower that anything i did get from the shower was a bonus. i planned it the way i wanted and thats it. and about a couple of weeks before my EDD my aunt threw me another one cause she couldnt attend, i still had some of the same people who went to my first shower go to the second and they were not obligated to get another gift. it was all fun and games.
tack nahhh.
everyone is different.
