Then maybe nobody wants to get you a present

lol but really though... showers are kind of like asking for presents, which is sort of tacky itself, but then its really tacky if you throw it on your own. Like hey everybody, come over here and bring me presents! Someone else should host it, so they are like hey everybody come over here and bring her/the baby presents

Not always to receive gifts. My friend just had one and those who wanted to brought gifts could.

I never really saw a baby shower as asking people to get you gifts, I saw it as a celebration of the new baby that is coming. I guess that is just me though...I wouldn't expect people to get me gifts for my shower. Now I think it is tacky as hell when people put on the invitation to bring a gift.

I dont think it's rude.
Personally, I have never had a baby shower. I grew up too quick. No time for friends. I started working at the age of 16. When I wasnt working then I was in school. When I had free time, I wanted to be alone. All I have are my mom and sisters pretty much.

Nobody is forcing you to go though so you arent really depending on or expecting anything...especially if you throw it for yourself. Imo it is less tacky to throw your own shower than to expect someone to throw it for you.

I wouldn't care if nobody got me a present, my friends threw me a surprise shower and I didn't get much but I didn't care...it was the thought that counts and them being there with me.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. A baby shower is a party where gifts ARE expected. If you throw a bash pertaining to baby or mom and gifts aren't expected, it's not a baby shower.

No I dont think it is. When I was pregnant with Caydence I was gonna throw my own baby shower. That way I could have it the way I wanted it and invite the people I wanted to. But my mamal was going to host the baby shower for me. I was going to throw my own shower that way I wouldnt be making anyone else do all the work or pay for any of the food/decorations/party games. That and Im very much the person who likes everything done a certain way and if things arent done "the right" way it freaks me out and most of the time I will literally have a panic attack when things arent done "the right" way. LOL I cant even be in the same room with SO on the rare occasion when he does dishes because I will have a panic attack because he doesnt do the dishes the same way I do.

I don't understand how its tacky? I've never had a baby shower but I would prepare food, decorate accordingly, plan out games and activities with prizes and expect people to show up and have a good time celebrating the occasion of a new baby.

How is that tacky? Its not like it would be bring a gift or no entry.

Exactly. Shower = presents. That is what the name means... "shower with gifts"
