What were your "Statistics" when you got Swept?

posted 3rd Nov
I was just curious what other women's "Statistics" we're when you got swept. I don't know if statistics is the correct word but basically:
How dilated we're you?
How effaced we're you?
Was the baby low?
And did it work?

I previously posted a topic about whether I should have it done or not at 39 weeks 4 days (This Thursday) but I forgot to ask all of these important questions along with it. I am 1cm dilated, 50% effaced. So I just would like a little more insight on this type of situation before I make a decision.

Thanks for your answers and sorry if any of you think I should not post again about this topic because I have one other similar Topic Posted but these questions make a difference to me and if your willing to share they definitely matter! They are also appreciated! I know that some girls get annoyed for whatever reason so I just wanted to say that! Thanks! A bunch! <3

Had mine swept twice...

First time, 2cm dilated, 75% effaced, did not work.
Second time, 3-4cm dilated, 75% effaced, went into labor within 36 hours.

I was "almost" 2 cm and I believe about 80% effaced.. baby was high and I assume since I was in labor within 24hrs, it worked   IMO I say go for it.

Momma +2 girls- Was this your first pregnancy? Or your most recent? Do you have other kids? Did you get swept with them? That really sucks that it didn't work the first time for you. =( Did it hurt you at all or cause excessive discomfort after they attempted? At least the second worked for you after 36 hours! They say it is supposed to work within 48! =)

Andi+ Andy= Marley +1- I am sorry it did not work do you either time! That really really sucks! Was this an attempt on your first pregnancy? Or do you have other kids? =)

scgALusc- Yay! Happy that you got a successful sweep! My next appointment which is this Thursday is when she would be doing the sweep. By then I could be more dilated or effaced I just won't know until I go! I am hoping for some progress but I don't ever get pains, contractions, or anything. =( So I just don't know.

I was told by a nurse today at a birthing class that because I have two kids already, that I am 1cm dilated, and 50% effaced that I will have better chances for it to work. I guess the more kids you already have and the fact that your uterus has begun to ready for labor with dilating and effacement that it gives you better odds. I just don't know though about all that. LoL ;P

It was my first and only other pregnancy so both times were with the same pregnancy. There was no discomfort, maybe equivalent to them doing a pap smear. Wish i could help u with more answers but i have no others to compare it to right now

I've had mine done once. I was 3-4cm dilated. 75% effaced. 39w3d. I was in labor by that evening. After my dr did the sweep he pulled out his fingers and said "see that blood?....thats a great sign, see you tonight!". He was right...I was having contractions before I even left the drs office.

Oh wow! That is awesome! Although I am only 1cm and 50% effaced. I wih Ibhad more progress but I don't. I was told it works better the more you have dilated and effaced. That is why I am concerned because I am not that much of either. That is great though! I guess the worse that happens is that it doesn't work! So I will probably give it a shot along with hoping that at the check up they find I have dilated more and effaced more. =) Thanks for sharing!

I got mine swept last monday, and it hasn't worked. I was 2cm dilated, not sure how effaced I was, they never told me, but at 36+5 I was 50 % effaced. Gonna get it done again monday, and hopefully it works.   You're due a day after me. GL & the sweep is nothinggg.. The doc said it would hurt, but it only made me cringe, was almost the exact same thing as getting checked for dilation. Hope we both are successful! lol

Hey there! It is nice to talk with someone who is due around the same time as me! Haha awe that is no good that the first sweep didn't work! At least it wasn't painful! I have a pretty good pain tolerance so the cervical exams are not painful at Ll to me and neither is when I get checked for dilation and effacement. So I hope I am the same way with the sweep. I have pretty much decided to do it. There is no harm to me or the baby and really the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work. It will be 3 days before my due date so I don't think I would be doing it too early either. If my body is ready it will work and if not it won't! Haha Do you have any other kids or is this your first? I hope for both of our sake that we can catch some luck as well! I will parent tank you, so you should let me know how it goes for ya on Monday! We will keep in touch! =)

Being checked for dilation is when a doctor inserts two fingers and measures if your cervix has opened at all.
Effacement is how thinned out your cervix has become
Having your membrane swept, is when a doctor inserts their fingers inside you just as if they were to do an exam, and put a finger in your cervix and seperate the cervix from the babies sac. it is supposed to help speed up labor if your body is ready for it.
it sounds wayyy more painful than it actually is in my opinion, but I feel like theres no harm in getting it done.. like OP said, if your body is ready it'll help labor, if not it wont. no harm done.   hope i helped.

Nope, this is my first baby   whens your apt to get the sweep done? lemme know how it goes. & I'll let you know on Monday how it goes for me.. I think I'm having contractions right now.. it'd be sweet if I were to go into labor tonight, but I doubt it lol.
