Hey Tierra!! I had my membranes swept this morning   it wasn't painful at all just uncomfortable... My midwife said I'm at 2cm and about 75% effaced so a little more progressed than I was last Thursday (I was 1cm and 50% effaced) I had it done at 10:30am and its 12:45 now. Since I had them swept I've had very light spotting and some cramping equal to my period cramps. Hopefully labor starts soon!! If not I'm being admitted to the hospital at 6:30am Friday to have my water broken and do some walking   I'll have my baby girl by Saturday at the latest!! Woo Hoo! I'll keep you updated throughout the day/evening if anything progresses. I didn't want you to think I forgot about you!!

Do most doctors do this?? I am interested in it but i dont feel comfortable talking to my doctor he kinda always gives me a look thats like your asking a dumb question. at 36 weeks i was 1.5 cm dilated and 70% effaced and baby was stationed at a -3. at my 37 week appointment i was still 1.5 cm dilated 80% effaced and between -2 and -1 station. Im 38 weeks and 3 days now dont know how things are down there but im already scheduled to be induced on the 14th i just wonder if this would help anything.....

It possibly could help you. It is different for everyone but basically the doctor will insert his fingers into your cervix and do a circular motion to separate the sac the your baby lives in from your cervix which is suppose to produce a natural hormone to progress labor. It is a more natural way of being induced rather than having any type of chemicals injected through IV to help start labor. I am getting it done on Thursday. I do not know if it will work or not because it is different for everyone but like I said it is a more natural way of being induced rather than using pitocin which I do not want to do. =) Every doctor should be able to do it for you if you request it. You are more dilated and effaced than I am which is supposed to give you bettwr chances of it to work so if the baby is low enough than he should be able to do it before you get induced. It wouldn't hurt. If I were you I would try befor your induction.since it is a more natural way for you and your baby. =) I hope that helped!

I just got home from my doctors appointment! I got the sweep done. He said I was 3 cm and there was quite a bit of blood. He said he wouldn't be surprised if I was in in the next 24 hours! I have 5 days till my due date and I don't know what to expect!!! Do you guys think I'll go in? I don't wanna get too excited just yet but I have been having cramps since I left the doctors office.

I was always told that the more dilated and effaced you were the better your chances are at the sweep working its magic! Plus, I also heard that blood is a good sign for it to work as well, usually when you have cramping soon after the sweep it is a good indication within some time (soon) hopefully your labor will kick into gear. Did it hurt real bad?

had a sweep last week at 40+1 I was 3 1/2cms dilated (not sure about effaced) but bub is not engaged and the sweep has done nothing! I am now 7 days over, so hoping when I see my midwife tomorrow I will be further dilated and if they do another sweep I am really hoping I will go into labour as I am meant to be induced on Monday (19th) and I would really rather not be induced!

Had it done twice with my son and neither worked.. Had it done with my daughter at 38 weeks, and again at 39 weeks when it actually worked. I was 4 cm and 80% effaced. Labor started 14 hours after the sweep and had my daughter in my arms in a little under four hours of labor.

4 cm 80% with both babies. With my first, labor started within 12 hrs and lasted for 4 hrs.

My second, it triggered labor immediately and doctor sent me to hospital. I had to get pictocin and he was born 2 hrs later.

How dilated we're you? i was 1cm.
How effaced we're you? 80% and only 38 weeks.
Was the baby low? Baby was very low
And did it work? No. But they sure put me in a hell of a lot of pain. I dind't ask to be swept either. I had contractions all evening, and did NOT want her to come early, i just wanted her to come naturally, so i was pretty pissed at the midwife after i figured out what had happened.
