Report Cards/Homework

What do you do when your child brings home bad grades?
What did your parents do when you brought home bad grades?

My son hasnt brought home bad grades. Most of his stuff is As and Bs, but mostly As. He struggles with some math but that is because they have to teach it 3 different ways to help those kids who learn a different way. he understands 2 ways.
My parents grounded me for 9 weeks. My grounding was not lifted til my next report card was in my dad's hand with an A, B or C. D's and F's were not acceptable.

My niece is struggling something awful. She is 6. Same grade as my son who is 7. My sister makes her do homework 2-4 hours a night. My niece told her teacher "My mommy wont help me". I was confused because she is *always* doing homework. When I go to my mom's house, I see my kids and my other 2 nieces playing while my oldest niece is at the table doing homework. Yeah, she drags her feet doing it, but if I had to sit there that long, I would too. Then I noticed....my sister is on the computer the whole time while my 6 yr old niece is reading and studying by herself. I told my sister "Help her!" She said "No, she can do it. She is just being lazy". Then my niece told her "Just take me to the doctor".

My son, we go over everything together. he reads to me, I help him with words he needs help with. Done.
Spelling- We do practice spelling tests every night
Vocab- He reads me the words every night. If he needs help, I help him. If he struggles with one, he writes the ones he struggles with 3 times each
Math- I help him and if he needs help, I explain it.
This takes us anywhere from 30 min-1 hour

How do you help your kids with homework?

and these kids are only learning math problems like 7+2+1. My sister gives my niece like 20 practice problems that are 80+14+3 and expects her to finish them all because "she is not stupid" *face palm*

Well she's only kindergarten but I explain it then make her do it herself then I go over it with her. I answer questions as she has them.

My son is only 4 so his homework is just writing out the alphabet and simple matching sheets. He's in TK (Cali thing).
He drags his feet sometimes and will sit at the table for an hour doing something that should only take him like 15-20.
I sit there with him and keep him going or else he would never get it done.

Wow that's too long to make a 4 yr old sit   Please don't make him hate homework this young.

I'm not going to let him get up after 5 minutes of him doing absolutely nothing. It's not just him sitting there staring at the page. As I said, I'm sitting there next to him encouraging him to keep going. This doesn't mean I sit there and tell him "Do your work" every 5 mins. I try to engage him in actually doing his work.

Growing up i got no punishment for bad grades at all, either did my brother. We didnt do homework at all, the school used to get mad but they got over it. My parents didnt believe in homework and wouldnt let us do it. lol

But we rarely got bad grades at, all.

My kids dont do homework either, but thats cause the school they go to does not give homework.

But with that said if my kids had bad grades I would make sure I was working with them to help their problem areas...kwim?

My kids have been doing home lesson plans since the age of 2 yrs old and still do now 1-2 hrs a night, they enjoy it lol but dd who is 10 has MID and needs help with reading and math, so i GET HER TO WORK ON IT EVERY DAY, IF SHE DOES NOT DO IT, SHE GOES TO BED EARLY AND GETS NO TV OR VIDEO GAMES HER IPAD OR IPOD ETC... srry my caps was on lol

But by every report card her grades were always up from the last one, so we go and celebrate even if its still under a pass, but higher then the last. Keeps it positive lol

My sister does that. She sits on the computer on FB or texting on her phone. She leaves my 6 yr old niece at the table for 2-4 hours and constantly says "Do your homework" while she is on the other side of the room doing other things. It annoys me.
