back labor- what exactly...

posted 3rd Nov
so i'm calling out for the knowledge of all you supermoms because i'm a little clueless. i had contractions starting yesterday evening that went all evening... they weren't super consistent but they did intensify. by this morning i started feeling some wicked lower back pain with these contractions. i'm aware this is called back labor... does it mean the baby is sunny side up?

I had back labor with both kids. My 1st daughter was in correct position. My second daughter was in fact "sunny side up" which led to a c-section.

I have heard that is what causes back labor, I myself did have back labor and that was the case for me. The Dr. had to reach inside of me and turn his head, which made me want to die.

I can't speak for others, but that's exactly what happened with my daughter. She cam out sunny side up. The Dr. said that everytime I had a contraction, the back of her head was hitting my spine, causing the back labor. Back labor is a bitch! It is way more painful than regular labor. I've had both, and hope to never have to go through back labor again.

That's what happened to me too...only my douche bag doctor detached the placenta in the process and I ended up having an emergency c-section :-/

That's how it was for me. Except we didn't know she was sunny side up until she was out lol. I had a pinched nerve the whole time epi does nothing for those! And with each contraction it only intensified it

I had horrible back pain with my son and he was face up. Luckily I was already scheduled for a c-section.

That was true for me though the bloody docs + midwives never told me all along, apparently my daughter was very posterior to quote one of em when I was screaming in the labour ward! The back of her head was stuck against my spine + the labour was agony it went on 36 hours altogether. I didn't dilate past 3 even after a sweep + having my water broken. After the waters were broken the pain doubled but she was stuck + severely distressed. I felt like my lower back was slowly breaking i actually thought id go insane if it didnt stop. Eventually they gave me an epidural but I reacted to it + her heart almost flat lined so was rushed off for emergency section with general anaesthetic. Horrible experience, wouldn't wish it on anyone. I only had a few normal contractions + the midwives were amazed that they didn't bother me, compared to the back pain they were nothing! I do know a few women though that had back labour with babies in proper position.

I have only had back labor with my 3rd and he was in fact in the sunny side up position. He was my longest labor of all my kids, but that is always my first clue I was going into labor...my back started to hurt and ache really bad.

I had back labour & he was the correct way.
But I also had period pain in my lower back prior getting pregnant.
I wish I never have another back labour again!
The stomach contractions were nothing to the back pain!!
