son with ADHD at my witts end

posted 3rd Nov
My son Has adhd and I don't know what to do with him I am almost at my witts end. If i oversleep for even 10 mins or doze off he gets into the cupboards and steals food and will go eat it under his bed!, he literally acts like he never gets fed which is far from the truth!
He will take his school snacks which is granola bars, or rice crispy squares or fruit snacks and eat the whole damn box, and this morning he asked for cake I said NO not till after noon and i was watching tv with the other two kids and dozed off for a few mins not long and i got up and checked sure enough he took the cake and ate the whole damn deep and delicious cake, like it's getting the point I can't have any treats in the hosue because he eats it.. He is so greedy!!

He was suspended from school for a day and a half for hitting his teacher other kids and his aide, and also from the bus for swearing, and jumping around and crawling in the aisles. I have had talks upon talks with him and he just doesnt get it.. NO is not a word he understands!,,
Yesterday they were being rough with a new game I got them so i took it away and he literally screamed and yelled, and cried and pointed at this game for two hours!, i try as hard as I can with him but he seems very agressive and angry, I have two other kids that need equal attention, I just am at my witt's end he is in kindergarten already and having so many issues, it's getting to be so hard to deal with, he constently is pulling his vent in his room apart and i can't take him out to do stuff because he is mean to other kids, HELP.. or advice.. bash me if u must because oh lord i dozed off

My son has ADHD not quite that bad but you need to adjust his diet and cut the sugar out. My son does not handle it well at all. Also having a schedule that he can live by helps. My son is homeschooled so I do not have the school problems. But maybe putting him with an older teacher would help.

has he been tested for anything other than ADHD? is he on meds? My son has ADHD with anxiety (which was caused by his ADHD meds) and he is in the 2nd grade, he has been on meds since preschool. he is able to control himself most of the time (usually when he's on his meds), but still has meltdowns. He will flip out about simple things that shouldnt be a huge deal. later that night or the next day he apologizes and tells me hes sorry, and explains himself to me.

his apetite has slowed down since being on his meds, so I have other meds to give him to boost his apetite. He also has to take meds to sleep or else he will be up until 4 am. I never wanted to medicate my kids, but after a while it was our only option. sometimes you have to...

Sorry I accidently hit enter before I finished. Also you just have to stay on top of them about things and have patience. Repeating yourself and sometimes I have to ignore outburts reminding him that is not the way to act. Also you need to find a punishment and stick with it. If he messes something up make him fix it and stand there while he does it. Good luck.

This.. I never wanted to medicate eitehr and i have friends who judge me for putting him on them but he is simply unmanageable to the point i had to let my mom take him for a month to compose myself, I am taking him to a child psyciatrist who can hopefully diagnose him with something out because in my heart i know its more than adhd

do you have any kind of behavior reward system at home or at school? my bf's daughter has adhd and we had a system at home where she earned chips (poker chips) for good behavior. and once she filled her jar to a certain point she got a small prize (like a toy she was allowed to pick from the dollar store or something), then the second level was a bigger toy, and the top level was a big outing (she picked go carts, but they closed down so we went mini golfing). so, it's a goal she works toward. at first, there was just earning chips for good things (having a good day at school, helping set the table, cleaning up toys, going to bed/brushing teeth without an issue, and even things like washing hands and using the bathroom appropriately), and if she did bad or undesired things, or refused to help, she would get no chips. later, her therapist said we could take chips away for bad behavior. at the time she was 5 or 6. now, she is about 6 and a half, almost 7. she's doing better, so we haven't done the reward thing recently, but we will bring it back if necessary. also, she is not medicated. and she's not as bad as yours, but she is very defiant and disrespectful. at school, they had a behavior chart for her where she earned stickers or pencils at the end of the week for good behavior and acting appropriately at school.

we do a star chart. but we have started doing it as a race between my 2 boys (my youngest hasnt been diagnosed with anything, but we include him in it). each day there is a chance for 3 stars: eating, cleaning, behavior. we set a goal for how many stars we want him to achieve in a month's time. if he gets it, he gets a prize. I don't ever take away stars for bad behavior, he just doesnt get the behavior star that day.

yeah, my daughter wasn't a behavior problem, but since my bf's daughter had one, we included her too.
