He wasnt abusive. It's just the way he talks. I am 28 and he still doesnt shy away from telling me if he thinks I am a dumbass for somethig I have done.

But see! There are other ways to discipline. It makes me sad that parents spank because they're angry. Walk away, breathe, and then reevaluate the situation.

That's..... abusive. My dad spoke to me the same way and it's the reason I cut myself at such a young age

Again, just because someone says it doesn't make it not abusive. That definitely sounds emotionally and verbally abusive to me.

My hubby's sister did that. Called the cops on their dad because she was mad. The cop showed up and told her "if you were my daughter I would whip you". Then when she lost her kids to the state, her parents tried to get them, but DCS refused because she got them involved when she was a teenager and calling the cops on DH's dad.

If I remember what DH said correctly, I think she was grounded or something.

Yeah..we never spank out of anger. Ever.

I was SO pissed he did that. Poor kid has a black eye. The sippy cup was full! He was so angry he went to timeout haha. Hasn't thrown a sippy since this morning! Devil.

I'm not saying I haven't had times like that. Last week I took LO to the store with me and she ran down the toy isle with the baby dolls. When it was time to go she freaked and I just side tracked her with other things. It may not work forever but it works right now.
To each their own though lol I know some kids are a handful or maybe have a disability that makes them act out. My best friends daughter throws tantrums at 14 months when you tell her no. I don't know why lol. my LO will stop when I say no, whine, then walk away but i know All kids are different

Calling the cops because you're mad? Totally different.

Calling the cops because your dad is threatening physical harm? Totally worth a phone call to the police.

i dont know why she was so impatient, if it was about gas her ass should have been walking... its once a year come on :/

I hate that, it always makes me feel so sad for the kids being threatened or hit by there parents  

IDGAF what other parents do. I will try to avoid 'spanking' my daughter in public, personally. And she will never hear the words 'stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about' uttered from me or her father. That sort of thing hits a raw nerve with me. But then mother used to say that smurf a lot.. while doing things like locking me outside the house when I got stung by a bee because I was crying (without dealing with the sting!)   I mean what the smurf did she expect, I was like six years old.  

We don't spank, I personally don't believe in it and it's not for us. That being said, other families should be able to choose what is right for them. Do I think it's right? No. But I'm sure I do things with my child that maybe other's wouldn't do. That being said, I don't think spanking in public is appropriate. I would be absolutely LIVID for my daughter to see a parent hitting their child while we are out somewhere. It is not something I want to expose her to.

I was never hit as a child, but I do remember being told "You're lucky I don't spank you" lol.... well thanks!

I don't think its trashy, I just think it says more about the parent than the child. I can't stand when parents threaten their children and I don't understand why parents choose to hit their children all out in the open. I don't want my kid to see that smurf then I have to go home and try my best to explain to them why an adult was hitting a child at the store.

I'm not anti spanking, I really don't care but if your child is acting up in public, consider all factors involved and remove them from that situation.
