Prayers D&D

If you are not religious, does it bother you if someone says they will pray for you, or keep you in their prayers. This is NOT meaning condescendingly. It means if you're having a hard time, health problems, something like that. If a person says "I hope everything gets better, I'll be praying for you," does this bother you?

Someone on my FB posted a status saying that she hates when people say that. It never really occurred to me to be a problem, since the underlying point is really that they are going to think positive thoughts for you.

So, if you are not religious, does that bother you? Is it rude to say that?

Nope. It's the thought that counts. I meditate and pray to my gods for people all the time. Hell, I'll even make an offering for them.

I am a religious person so I know it kind of defeats the purpose of this thread, but I can't see why this would bother someone. Especially if it's in a nice manner and not like someone being rude and saying "you need Jesus, I will pray for you" kind of way. Ya know?

I'm not really religious either but it doesn't bother me.
I'll even tell other people that I'll pray for them when they ask for prayers. I don't follow one set religion but that doesn't mean that I can't pray to "someone". Kwim?

This is how I feel about it. I don't know why you would be offended, or upset about it. The more people you have in your corner, the better, IMO.

No cause it means something to them. It's the thought that counts right.

I've always wondered something like this too... Do people who are not religious get offended when strangers or anybody says "bless you" after they sneeze?

Because I mean, I've even caught people who claim to NOT be religious saying bless you to others. lol.

It only bothers me when it's someone who knows my religious beliefs.

I hate when someone who knows I'm an atheist says they'll pray for me. It really annoys me.

I have seen momma's on here get offended by it and I don't get why...I mean ok, you don't believe but at least that person cares! It doesn't mean if they pray for you, you have to become their religion. I do usually ask now if I remember though.

I wasn't previously religious at all, actually quite the opposite. But, when someone says something like that to you, they're saying it to be nice and to remind you that they're hoping positive things for you. That's nothing to get mad at, though I have seen it happen. I tend to be generic when I tell people things like that, I keep it along the lines of "Sending positive thoughts your way!" to ensure that I don't offend anyone.

I believe it started because they believe when you sneezed your soul was trying to escape so saying bless you kept it in so it started out in a religious way but changed over time. lol Could be wrong but thats what I have always heard.

Because I respect their beliefs, they should respect mine. Is it hard to say something like, I'll be thinking of you?

No someone saying they will pray for me doesn't bother me.

But what does bother me is when people think prayer is enough to help a situation, I think it's a lazy 'solution'. So someone can think to themselves that they did their part to make things better instead of getting off their ass' to be proactive...
