On call induction?

posted 2nd Nov
My due date is in a little over a week, and this pregnancy has been high risk so I have known that if I don't go into labor on my own I will be induced no later than my due date. Well my last OB appointment my doctor wrote the order to set up my induction and they were suppose to call me today with the details. Well of course they "forgot" to call me, but I called before they closed. The nurse on the phone only told me that I would be induced on the 12th of November (my due date) but I would be "on call."

She pretty much explained it as, I wait at home and they could give me a call anytime after 6:30am!? I have never heard of this before, does this sound normal? Everyone I have asked (they have all been induced) were given a specific time to go in and start their induction.

I was given a set time to come in, but they said to call before hand to make sure they had a room available. I ended up going in labor on my own on my due date lol

That's what I am hoping to do, I actually went into labor on my due date with DS so it would be nice to do that again, lol. I would really like to avoid being induced.

That doesn't sound right at all but who knows it might be but that would suck I would want to know when that away I could be prepared plus I thought u were suppose to eat at certain times and everything but I might b wrong. I can't remember I know I went in and was having contractions but not dilated and they went ahead and induced me because I was past my due date! Hopefulyl my labor starts on its own this time. I want to be able to feel my water break and everything because I didn't get to feel all that when I was induced! GL hopefully they call u tomorrow lol but we all know that won't happen!!!

I guess it just doesn't make sense to me. If they don't have room then don't set me up for induction for that day...but then again labor is pretty random so they can't always predict how busy it will be. But this way just makes everything really difficult.

Its not like they know how many women labor they will have at any given time. I have only heard of a few instances where it actually gets pushed back.

Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. I'm just a very scheduled person so the thought of trying to sit around all day waiting for them to call, sort of sends me into a panic, lol.

I was 10 days late and had basically an appointment to show up at the hospital.

They had my room set up and my IV bags all waiting for me.
