Do we have the same kid? This is a daily struggle for me as well. I'm taking him in December for a developmental assessment, his psychiatrist said it was ADHD, but I believe it is something more complex than that.

My friends little boy will be 3 soon and he would do the same thing. He now sees a behavior therapist a few times a week and has improved so much. He still throws tantrums and gets violent but not as often as he did. He also has learning issues and developmental problems. He reacts violently when he can't get across what he wants.

Is he in Head Start or any type of school or daycare situation? If he is acting the same way I would check with his doctor to see if you could get a psychologist to test him. My daughter has autism, adhd, and temper displacement disorder with dysphoria(meaning she is a walking time bomb anything will set her off) by a child psychologist. She is in Pre-K and the school tested her and said she only has autism which would account for the behavior problems according to them ( we will see on that one). Talk to doctor and push for the testing. I had to fight for 2 1/2 years to get my daughter tested and put into the right program. My child is 4 and will be 5 in April just to give rough idea.

I have spoke with his pedi about this, after a few times they suggested taking him to see a Psychiatrist. Do you think that's my best bet at this point? I've tried talking to my parent s about this and they think I'm bat smurf crazy and "need to leave him alone".

I would go to the psychiatrist, I mean its helped us a little, but I want a full development assessment, the psychiatrist will give you some insight about what needs to happen next after seeing them, good luck!

I got that from my parents all the time and they still don't believe that my daughter has a problem even after my daughter has seen 7 professionals. My parents keep saying nothing is wrong. If you feel that it should be looked into then do it because the earlier the better. I wanted my daughter tested soon to avoid using medicine since she was close to getting beyond control at the age of 2. I still have to keep open to medicine but so far therapies and modifications that are suggested by her teacher and therapists have worked. Just follow your instincts, because it is more stressful not being able to do anything than just going through initial testings and getting an idea on how to better handle the situation.

He isn't in daycare. We tried that this past Spring and after 4 days of him flipping out on the way there and puking on his self I gave up. He is with my mother everyday which accounts for most of his tantrums. I just know something isn't normal, I've known it since he was a infant.

If you can, take him to the psychologist the doctor recommends without your parents knowing until after the appointment. I actually had to do that with my daughter and then waited a day before I told my parents. I did research and everything to back it up, but I am still fighting my parents on how to deal with her since her tantrums get way out of control. If your parents don't think anything is wrong and psychologist says yes try to get the help the psychologist recommends and your parents (probably like mine) will have to be reminded to follow the doctors orders. It got so bad with my parents, I had to give them an ultimatum and it worked since now they are following the doctor recommendations (not fully but better than before), because all my parents did was make it worse before the ultimatum.
