Job choices

posted 2nd Nov
I'm facing a tough decision and Walmart sure isn't making it easier. They cut my hours from 35-40 all the way down to 20 a week because they hired a bunch of new cashiers. I'm debating moving into a different department in hopes of more hours OR I could get a second job in the evenings at say Target cashiering a bit to make up for the hours I'm loosing at Walmart being up front. While I LOVE cashiering best, I need more hours....what would you ladies do?

Moving to another dept would be easier because you do not have to juggle two schedules.

I find it odd that they are cutting back hours going into the holiday season.

Does Target have full time available?

If it were me I'd probably get a new or another job. I worked at Chipotle as a cashier and got anywhere from 28-40 hours a week but mostly closer to 40. You also get paid more than minimum wage. Maybe you could look into that?

I get paid $8.40 at Walmart cashiering.

Target isn't full time either. They also pay .40c less than I am making now per hour. Which wouldn't be a big deal if I got more hours, but I've already applied and talked to them...they told me 20-25 hours would be it.

What is minimum wage in CO? Sorry, I didn't mean anything by it, I just thought most cashiering places are minimum wage.

And what sucks is that I'm from electronics I moved up front back in June because that department was FULL of drama and the department manager was a you know what. So, I'd hope for better luck IF they'd move me a third time in that store ya know?

Most are. It's OK. I wasn't upset. Min wage in CO is like $7.56 I THINK.

No, it's almost a full dollar more per hour.

I've worked at Walmart before, and they considered it to be a conflict of interest to work at another major retailer. They fired a girl for working a second job at Kroger because our Walmart had a grocery section. Tread carefully. I would honestly pursue moving to another department if you can, or going full time at Target instead.

Oh okay. I think Chipotle pays about $2 more than minimum. But it was a pretty hard job.

You have a good point. I'll try moving to another department before I just quit or get a second job.

Hopefully they're just gearing up and hours will increase for the season. You could probably get a second job still if it wasn't retail or grocery, like food service, hotel, bank teller, etc.
