would this upset you?

posted 1st Nov
I definately agree with my sis on this one...

This morning her step daughter refused to go to school. She said she was too tired and had a stomach ache. So my BIL took her to his moms house.

Less than an hour later she was posting stuff on facebook. So too tired and sick to go to school bit fine to play on the computer. I guess thats okay.

But then her grandparents take her out to eat and shopping! What the heck. She was obviously fine enough to do that, she should of gone to school.

My mom better never pull a stunt like that. My sis is upset over it but my BIL really doesnt care.

Just wondering what you ladies thought...

The computer part wouldn't upset me much... but the fact that she went out, yeah, I'd be pissed about that.

If that was my child, she would be in school, no questions asked. If they get away with it once, they'll do it agian. And this is just the beginning.

Ehh.. I think there was lack of communication here. Maybe she lied to her grandparents and told them that she didn't have school today. Whether she asked to go out, or they offered to take her out, they shouldn't it's still on the grandparents for taking her. They shouldn't have since she stayed home from school.

We as adults take 'mental' health days. Maybe turn the alarm off, get back under the covers, go out for breakfast, sneak a nap. Every once in a great while this is great for the soul.

I do not see it as any different for a child who is attending school full time. Everyone needs a break sometimes.

Maybe saying she had a stomach ache was the only way she would get a break.

I am raising my teen brother and his rule is if he is too sick to go to school then he is too sick to play on computer, phone, or to go outside.

I wasn't allowed to stay home from school unless I had a fever or was puking.

sounds like her daddy a gparents are wrapped around her little finger. I'd be upset too. I wouldn't be so nice about it though, stepchild or not.

It would depend on her history in my opinion. if she attends school and never misses any days, and just needed a days break, it wouldnt be that big of a deal to me, aslong as she KNEW that it was a one time thing. if she is the type of student who misses a lot of days, i would be very upset.

The computer thing, no big deal. Don't YOU use the computer still when you're sick? I mean, you don't have to be all chipper and 110% to post a facebook status.

As for going out, my mom's number one rule about missing school was, if you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick to go out of the house.

But I mean, did her grandparents actually take HER shopping, or did they go shopping and she just tagged along pretty much? Two totally different things.

I agree : ) My mom used to let me plan days like this and I always saved them for when it was cold and yucky. My dad also used to take my brother and I out for one day and we'd go sledding and fun stuff like that : )
As long as my grades were good and I got caught up right away they let me do it but if I screwed up I lost the privledge

I would fake being sick so I didn't have to go to school. I had good reason, I was always being picked on even up until I was in 12th grade. I had a guy in my class call me Sylvester (the car) when I would speak because I have a lisp with my s's. I was always called shorty, fat, chubby, ugly, pinky (I have small pinky's) and I would just be so nervous to go to school. I hated school, never had the help I needed.

No they took her clothes shopping. Which was also upsetting because she has four brothers all of which went to school and didnt get a thing bought for them.

She doesnt miss a lot of school because my sister doesnt let her. But she foesnt pay attention and often fails to finish school work and homework. or she lies and says she doesnt have the homework.

I think it bothered my sister too that my BIL just doesnt want to deal with her drama so he gives in to everything with her.

And to top it off, they have inservice tomorrow so they dont have school!
