Working out at the gym...

posted 1st Nov
I have a gym membership. I used to go about 4 times a week. Once I found out that I was pregnant, I stopped going because of morning sickness and fatigue. I'm 23 weeks and I have all my energy back. I'm wanting to get back in my old routine (working out Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays) but what are good workouts for pregnant women that are safe? I'm guessing it's all leg and butt workouts only? I'm not interested in signing up for classes. I'm also not interested in swimming. What is a good workout plan/guide so that I don't overdo it?

I'm thinking I'm only allowed to walk on the treadmill or cycling. I might look into yoga classes at my gym if there offering (not 100% if I want to do that or not). This evening will be my first time back at the gym since the beginning of June. Sheesh.

Just take it slow and see how it goes!

The eliptical is really low impact on your knees while working your whole body. It has helped me stay active throughtout this pregnancy. I knwo you said you have no interest in swimming but just getting in to the water has made my swelling go down so much.

A lot of it depends on what kind of shape you were in before you got pregnant. I still do everything at the gym now that I did when I wasn't pregnant (cardio and weight lifting)....I just take it a little bit slower and try to avoid lifting too much weight.(I only lift about 60% of my max weight) I did check with my OB to make sure it was safe and he told me to go for it and that my body would "limit" me the further I got into my pregnancy. You should absolutley check with your OB as everyone is different. Just do what you are comfortable with... if you question something or feel unsafe alter your workout. You can find a lot of exercise regimens online for different stages of pregnancy. Good Luck!!!
