Well infant should NEVER be forward

Cora was in a rear facing infant seat until about 6 months
then a rear facing convertible until 18 months
then a front facing convertible until she was 45 lbs.

Now she is 4.5 years old and in a booster

The laws have changed a lot. Age doesn't matter, it's weight and height. And it's the law so it doesn't matter if it seems extreme.

Rear-facing is recommend until age 2. But it's the safest way and should be done until the weight limit.

DD was 7 months when I switched her to a 5 point convertible carseat. She outgrew her infant carrier.

Ditto, though Rowan is still in a forward facing convertible and is almost 4.5. She's only about 36lbs. though and isn't close to hitting the height limit on it (let alone the weight) so she'll be in it for quite awhile longer

DS#1 was in an infant seat until 12 months, he was tiny. 12-15 months a convertible seat RFing then we FF at 15 months. He'll is 4 now and hes still in it. We might switch to the high back booster soon, he'll be 5 in Jan.

DS#2 is 5 months and still RFing in an infant seat. We're going to get a convertible seat and RF him until he's able to switch whether that be 12 months or longer.

[snip!] ... be in a booster seat until they are 8 years old.. This seems a little extreme to me.. No one I know was in one that long. "</blockquote>

RF till 1 and 20lbs.

My oldest was ff in her seat till I think 3ish went to a booster (no back on it) till 8 then now at 10 does not use one.

Middle RF till 1 and 20lbs.

Still in her seat at 4 but uses a no back booster when we ride with other ppl

My 8.5 month old is in RF now still, will move when she is ready she uses a convertible seat.

There are new discoveries and laws out all the time concerning carseats and safety. The longer a child is RFing, the better (even adults are best kept rear facing but obviously that's not possible). The AAP & NHTSA both recommend that a child RFs until they're 2 & 30lbs. at the minimum. I know some 4 year olds that are rearfacing, still.

The longer a child is kept in a 5pt. harness, also the better. It's also law that a child is in a booster seat until they're 8.

Youtube has a lot of child safety videos. If you search "Car seat safety", I'm sure they would pop up.

Okay. Because I know my boys both outgrew the infant seats by about 9-10 months from height and went to rear facing. Now my oldest is 4.5 and in a booster. I was just curious as to when YOU would stop the booster? My niece was out of it at 5.

Legally kids have to be in a booster until they are 8 and so many inches talle

I would keep her in a booster until she reaches the max limits for it
