Quoting Kelly&Coralie:" Legally kids have to be in a booster until they are 8 and so many inches talle I would keep her in a booster until she reaches the max limits for it"

Depends on your state. Here, under 12 months is RF and under 5 for booster. They don't say anything about 5 point harness. Under 12 is seat belt. The last one is to stop really young kids from riding in the bed of a truck.

The main reason I ask this question is obviously I want what is safest for my kids; however, with so many different opinions on the topic, I'm not 100% what that would be. My MIL is always taking the kids and she will leave the car seat at home if I don't buckle it in for her. It drives me crazy. My son will be 5 in May and everyone in my family thinks he should be out of the booster by now & if he goes with them, they wont use it.

Infant seat until 10 m, then into a rear-facing convertible. She is 3 and still in the convertible, still rear-facing, and will until she hits the limits on her seat (weight limit is 45 lbs, she is 31 now). She will stay in a 5-point harness until she hits those limits, too.

5-Step test to determine if safely ready to transition out of a booster:

And as far as my children go: DS was out of his infant seat at 10 months, DD at 7 months and both are in rear facing convertibles at 4 1/2 years and 2 1/2 years.

Then they wouldn't be taking my child.

FF 5 pt harness from 12 months - whenever she hits the requirements which at 52 inches or 65 lbs then she will be in a booster until she hits the requirements.

My son grew out of his infant seat around 5-6 months. I bought convertible seats & he stayed rear facing until 15 months. I fought my husband on this one & he now knows that it is safer to keep them RF as long as possible.
My son is 4 and FF and still in a 5 pt harness & will remain in that until he reaches 65 or 70 lbs. He's 43 lbs and 44 inches tall & fits comfortably.
I had several people comment " isn't he a little old for a car seat or he's still in a carseat?"

Quoting SoonToBeProudMommyOf3:" Okay.. so simple question.. what ages were your kids when you changed car seats?! i.e. infant rear - ... [snip!] ... be in a booster seat until they are 8 years old.. This seems a little extreme to me.. No one I know was in one that long. "

california law is they should b e in one until they are 8.. which i think is great.. i know some 8 year olds that are small..

Kaylee is 5.. she went from a infant carried to a convertible at 6 monthish.. was rear facing until 1.. went FFat 1.. in my car and my moms shes still in a 5 point harness.. my SO she has a booster

she is in a myride 65.. shes 46 pounds ill keep her in a booster until shes 8 (which i get mad when parents dont have thier kids in boosters at least.. kaylee was made fun of for still being in a carseat .. some kids in her kindergarden class arent even in boosters anymore
