If you had back labor
posted 31st Oct
If you had back labor with your first labor/delivery, did you with your second? The 16 hours of intense back labor, failed epidural, hour and a half of pushing, baby in distress, million stitches has sort of scarred me for life and makes me never want to have another baby.
I know not all of those things necessarily always happen with back labor.. I'm just wondering did you still have all of your contractions in your back the second time around?

Sorry to say but yes.....but every pregnancy and labor can be different and the second time around was a million times easier

I had back labor both times. First time my son was born sunny side up, the second time my daughter was born facing my right thigh. I think their weird positions caused it, mostly.

Yup. First was 12 hours of all natural back labour. Wasn't horrible
Second was 3h45m of all natural back labour. Worst thing in the entire universe. Many complications. Ended up with four LAYERS of stitches.

If you got an epidural, did it work? Everyone told me that they had awesome labor/delivery when they had an epidural and were laughing and talking/blahblahblah right up until they pushed. My contractions never went away, my entire body was numb except for the contractions and they kept upping my dose and I ended up vomiting. I probably would NEVER get an epidural again because I felt the pain anyway and it just made me sick.

i had horrific back labor with first one & 3 1/2 hours of pushing. terrible delivery, they ended up using forceps. but no back labor with the others.

All of my deliveries have been different, my first was always in the right place, my second was posterior and gave me contractions in my back until my water broke and she flipped around, my third's cord was too short to do anything and so he stayed right where he was was, back to back, giving my lots of back labour. I decided I was done having kids if for no other reason (which there are many) than to avoid ever having back labour again! I totally understand, but just remember, before my back labour delivery I had two non-back labour deliveries and I wouldn't doubt if your next labour is very different from your first.

Yeah they had to use the vacuum with her because both of our heart rates were way too high, I think her's was 200. It was either that or a c-section.

No, I did not. I had back labor with my first and it was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! My second delivery was a breeze, no back labor what so ever. Every baby and every delivery will be different.

I had back labor and suffered a fractured tail bone and a 3rd degree laceration.
However, all of this lasted for less than a day and the recovery was not that bad. While I'm hoping for an easier time this time around, I also know that labor (period) isn't comfortable or glamorous.

yes! first and second were both really bad back labor, but my third wasn't. With my second I had no epi cause he was born at home, but I found that having my husband push on the most painful spot really hard helped tons.

Yes I did but compared to the labor I had with DD? The labor I had with LO was a dream. Two total different experiences.

No one I know has had back labor so when I try to describe the experience I had (which was made worse by the fact that they took my baby away from me almost instantly and I didn't get to see her for a long time) they don't get it at all... They act like I'm exaggerating and there was no way my epi didn't work.... .... ok. I know labor isn't easy no matter what way it happens, I would just really like to never have to go through all those complications again!

OK, you just had your baby. Forget about it girl. When you look at your baby, just look at her...not how she got here. Reliving the past over and over is not doing you any favors. While I understand it was traumatic, it doesn't have to be on your mind anymore. The important thing is you got through it and you and your baby are here and healthy
