Trying to figure out how far along I am..

posted 30th Oct
I have PCOS and only get my period about 5 times a year. I never keep track. i was told by my endocrinologist that I probably wouldn't have more kids. I do have 1 3.5 year old son. Well, I took a pregnancy test and it was positive (super excited!) but I have no clue when my last period was. I'm thinking maybe late August. Anyway, I have an appointment with the doctor but not for 2 weeks so I'm just trying to guess how many weeks I might be based on symptoms. I am not showing (but that doesn't say much, I didn't show till 7 months with my son), I had 2 bouts with morning sickness last weekend, my boobs have been KILLING me for about 2-3 weeks now. I don't remember them hurting like this before until after I had my son. I thought I felt movement today also but I'm not positive. Anyway, any thoughts/guesses are appreciated.

Hopefully you'll get a viability US at your first appointment so they can measure and go from there. Good luck and congrats!

Unfortunately there really is no way of telling how far along you are just based on symptoms. If your last period was end of August, you're anywhere from 4-9 weeks.

Morning sickness usually doesn't set in until about 5-6 weeks for most women. That being said, that was my FIRSt symptom with my last two. With both of those I threw up to smells 4dpo.

I know a lot of people say that you can't get a false positive with PCOS, but I've had three. I hope that's not the case for you, though. =[ The only way you'll really know is by going to the doctor. Good luck! Congratulations if you're pregnant!

It's really unlikely to get a false positive. The majority of the reason people get a "false" positive is user error honestly. Performing or reading the test wrong.

Also, some people think they got a "false positive" when they end up having a chemical pregnancy. They get a faint line and then a few days or a week or so later they get what they think is their period and they believe they had a "false" positive.

Also, a lot of women misread the antibody strip or an "evap" line as a positive, then when they can't get another positive they believe they had a "false" positive.

Like I said, a false positive is VERY rare.

Eeeeekkk.
I know how you feel, when I first found out I was pregnant with Annie, I had NO clue how far along I was since I have irregular periods too. :/ I wish I had some advice for you, I just had to wait it out though.

That being said, I'm so happy for you!!!!

I've had it happen on three separate occasions, and even my PCP agreed that they were false positives because of PCOS. I'm not saying it's impossible that I read them/did them wrong, but I'd like to think I followed the instructions thoroughly.

Those are a lot of different factors....and it's been over two years since it last happen. I've never heard of a chemical pregnancy though...I'll have to go look that up.

A chemical pregnancy is a VERY early miscarriage. Women usually end up miscarry either soon after they test positive or sometimes even before they get around to testing. Most women believe it to be their period because chemical pregnancies usually take place very near to when a woman is expecting her period. Most women don't even catch it because hCG levels tend to stay fairly low, so it's mostly women who are TTC and testing early that will get a positive test.

Like a said, a woman will get a faint line, then won't be able to get another positive test because levels were low to begin with and are already dropping. Then they will begin to bleed so they believe the first test to be a "false" positive.

I was afraid of false positive. It does say ovarian cysts can cause that. Based on my boobs killing me I'm guessing its legit.

I guess I'll have to wait for the doc. :-/

Thanks, Jenn! Funny to see you on here again.

And yes there are a lot of different factors. Women will get a negative, leave the test, come back in a few hours, see that an evap line has formed and believe it to now be a positive test, when in fact, it's just an evap line.

Also, some women pee into a cup first and dip the test. Well if you pee into a cup that has recently been washed and might have soap residue in it, the soap residue can produce a "false" positive.

Like I said, it's usually "user" error. Either the woman did something wrong when taking the test or when reading.

OR a chemical pregnancy, which again is not a "false" positive.
