super freaked

Our house alarm system in our new house went off. It wasn't even armed in the first place, and c all the kids were sleeping, so they couldn't have set it off. The doors and windows were all locked. It said it was the back door. Our back yard is fenced in, and we checked it out quickly enough to see if there was someone there. Is it common for the alarm systems to go off for no reason and when they're not armed? I've never dealt with them before, and since we're new here, I don't know what kind of things go on in this neighborhood, either.

I've never had that happen. I've had ADT off and on for years and years. Super weird!

Either an electrical issue or a ghost. hah

Weird. I don't remember which company this one is through. Its military housing, but located off base, so everything was already set up when we moved in. I'm super scared, though. For now dh is home, but once his leave is over, he'll only be home for a few hours every few weeks. I could handle some weird paranormal smurf, but not home invaders.

It could have been someone trying to get in.. and heard the alarm.. and ran... which means it did its job!

Is the housing set up on a base, kind of like Chibana?
I'd call PMO just to ask. SoCal has a lot of crime and there are tons of transients in San Diego...

No, it's off base, so we'd have to call the local police. I'm just confused because it wasn't even armed in the first place.

Im not stalking you Edee, you just happen to be the only one in my parentank posting   Anyways we had ADT or Edison (I think) and our alarm went off a couple of times. Once because one of us accidentally forgot it was on and opened the door, the rest were just random. We ended up cancelling it because we were more paranoid of the alarm going off than a burglar. All of the wiring and box are still up and we still get the control box going off, small beeps though not the full blown alarm.

Could be the batteries, or maybe there was wind at the back door? Could have also been someone thinking your house was still empty?

I originally thought that it might be someone who thought the house was empty, but nobody was there, and to get into our back yard, you'd have to hop a few of my neighbors' fences on either side or go through the garage. There's no other way. I don't think it was anybody, though. It had to have been a malfunction, since the system was unarmed.
