I need feminism because it shouldn't be okay for you to ask ' but what about your kids' when I speak of my dreams. I need feminism because you would never ask the above of A MAN.

I like all of them but this pic stuck out to me too. I get so tired of catching hell for letting my son do "girl" stuff. I've argued so much with family members over this one. I don't care what toys he plays with or what colors he likes as long as he's happy.

I need feminism because...

I have 4 daughters and a son. My daughters are growing up on the side of the mountain and do not need to be called, "lesbians in training" (yep, heard it already) because the only clothes they have that don't fall apart when you look at them are boy's clothes. My son does not need to be made fun of by his male peers when he grows up because the invariable result of growing up with a bunch of sisters is that he will have respect for girls and be able to get along well (not just in a romantic way) with girls.

I need feminism so that I can walk around my town of 1000 people at dusk without fear of being raped because my husband isn't home to stand over me.

I need feminism because society still tells me that this guy:
who has way bigger boobs than I do, is perfectly within his right to walk around half naked anywhere he wants... but it's obscene for me to breastfeed in public because OMG I HAVE NIPPLES!

I need feminism because my husband and I CO-own a horse-hauling business and I frequently get calls that insist on speaking to the "real" owner, with the implication that I'm just a secretary or something, when in fact I do 90% of the work since DH has an unrelated sales job and the business can be run from our home office.

I need feminism because I'm still referred to as selfish and dumb for making my own informed decisions about birth, child-rearing and education -- all fields dominated by MEN at the higher levels, with women just doing the bidding of the men when it comes down to actual work.

I need feminism because my husband was a SAHD for two years and that's still not considered acceptable absent a dire financial need, which we did not have. He just wanted to be with his kids and it makes me sad that that's not acceptable, just the same way it's still a sore point with many women that other moms go to work absent a dire financial need to do so.

My girls need feminism because I had a hard time finding a Halloween costume that wasn't pink, frilly, or princess. Much less one that represented an actual occupation. My girls need feminism because my 4 year old desperately wanted to be a doctor and we couldn't find one that didn't have a boy (complete with a drawn on beard) on the package, though she didn't care and is thrilled with her costume-- even though we could only find it in the boys' section.

I agree.


(Though, to their credit... there is a lot of misandry in the current state of feminism. That's every movement, though. There are always extremes and people not really understanding, in this case, what equality means.)

Oh yeah. I just which people would recognize that is a radical form of feminism and that most feminists like their bras and hair and boyfriends, lol.

I can't find it right now but the one I love says something like:

I need feminism because I shouldn't be told that I should be grateful for being raped because I'm fat.

I need feminism because half of the people in my life are telling me I can't be a good mother on my own, and the other half chastise me for thinking about men at all. I'm a mother, right? That's all I should be allowed to be, apparently.

I need feminism because my adopted mother will never let go of the fact that when she got it in her head that she was getting a little girl, she would be able to play dress up and braid my hair all day. I need feminism because I shouldn't have to apologize at 21 years old for being a tomboy as a child.

I need feminism because a 12 year old shouldn't have to beg for help, only to be told "Well just don't go around him anymore. You're going to get your dad thrown in jail."

I need feminism because as a woman in Arkansas, I'm looked at like something is wrong with me because I'm not married by now.

I need feminism because I shouldn't have to justify why I don't want my daughter to have baby dolls. It's not a prerequisite for being a girl.

I need feminism because my daughter looks DAMN good in blue!

I need feminism because everything I've ever been taught about men scares me in ways I can't even say.

I love them because people don't realize how far we have to go still sometimes. Women talk about how we are totally equal, or even that women are BETTER off than men now. It drives me nuts, because I can't understand how they can be so blind to not see that there is still work to do.

Not me personally. I saw an "I need feminism" picture that had that on there. I've also seen other people speak of such instances.

I personally felt that since I was fat, then what happened to me couldn't be rape and in my mind concluded that he must love me if he was willing to do that to me. It was the beginning of an abusive relationship. It was only later, in therapy, that my therapist helped me come to terms with the experience.

While I was being raped I repeatedly told my attacker "you don't want to do this I'm fat." So I completely understand that feeling.
