On Thursday Oct 10th I had my 39 week appointment (at 38 wks 6 days) where I measured 4 cm dilated and my OB did the membrane strip. She said she didn't expect me to be pregnant much longer. Went home and had sex and took a nap. Woke up about 5 and I was noticeably contracting. I'd had some already so I wasn't rushing out the door
We went and had a birthday dinner with my family for SO's birthday, which was the day before. By the time we got to their house for cake and pictures I was in a rush to eat the cake and head to the hospital. Had to get the cake first! Got to the hospital around 7 or 8ish and the nurse who took me in seemed a little skeptical of my labor due to my "good mood". It did turn out to be real, even though they had a realllly hard time monitoring my contractions and baby. Labored until midnight without epidural, much to my mother's dismay. "No one deserves to feel that pain!". -_- Got my epidural at 7 cm I think. Made it to 8 before my Dr. broke my water and saw meconium. She also said I was an almost 7 after breaking my water and that that was "normal". Started pushing with my kind of discouraging nurse around 7 a.m. and at 8:04 Emily made her dramatic arrival. After her head was out the next push absolutely launched her into the Dr.'s hands and showered the room with nastiness. She was born 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 and a half inches on 10-11-12 with no complications from the meconium.
I was sooooo happy with my entire experience. My Dr. (Nelly Heiman) was absolutely amazing and encouraging through my entire pregnancy. So happy that she was there to deliver my baby. I tore a little bit, however, I felt amazing. I still feel amazing. It was the experience I wanted with my first pregnancy.
