Membrane Sweep

What are your guys stories on Membrane Sweep? I had one done today I am 4 CM dilated and 100% thinned, absolutely no mucus plug left either. This is the first child to have it done with, once again im dilating without actually labor just constant irregular contractions so Dr offered to help me along through all these contractions.

Well I wasn't contracting or anything but I was very soft and about 2 cm when they did my first sweep. I contracted all night but they stopped - 2 more sweeps, same thing - contractions but they stopped. 3 days after my third sweep (almost 2 weeks since my first) my water sprung a tiny leak while laughing too hard and my son was born 4 hours later. Good luck!! Labour dust!

this is my 2nd child and I've been curious about sweeping membranes, is it that they are just trying to get your water to break? or whats the point? with my DD, My water broke on its own in the hospital, and I dont want it to break at home and make a mess etc.(mayb im crazy) But what are the pros/cons of sweeping membranes?

The Dr drew me out a picture, and basically what they do is pull the bag of waters from the uterine wall right above the cervix, the pro is you go into labor withen 24hours. The con is you dont, it hurts a little and only took like a minute is all. There are no risks to the baby or anything. It can also cause the water to break.

The sweep also releases a chemical that helps you contract. They will also stretch out your cervix. I was stretched to 4 cm by my third sweep. It made for a fast labour and delivery. By the time I got to the hospital I was 8cm. Another hour and was ready to push.

Well I had it done about 10 this morning have been having alot of cramping and had some contractions, but its 6 pm now and still no full labor so im still hopeful but starting to get discouraged....
