Evauation D&D
posted 30th Oct
There are times when there are repeated warnings to evacuate an area in severe weather, and people choose not to.
If people have not heeded such warnings should first responders attempt to save them in an emergency?
Obviously this would not pertain to cases where there was a disability or something that prevented them from eveacuating.

No. If it was mandatory, then they're screwed. they can wait.

I'm torn on this one. On one hand I think they should wait, on the other hand if they have kids that didn't make the choice not to evacuate I think they should be helped.

Nope. They were warned and chose not to listen. They shouldn't risk rescue teams' lives in addition to their own.

I think it's stupid and selfish not to evacuate when you've been told to, unless you have a reason not to (like unable to get transport out because of a disability, or similar). It puts people who have to resque you at risk, and if they get hurt or get killed, that's on those who refused to evacuate.
Makes me mad
I don't know if they should be rescued

Yes and no.
I say no they should have listened and evacuated, you just smurfed yourself.
But what about all those ppl who chose to endanger their young children? I mean if a child is old enough to just up and evacuate themselves and make that decision for themselves the parents should let them go, if they dont want to stay.
But to me it is completely stupid to hold your children hostage in a dangerous situation, and I FEEL THAT THE ATTEMPT TO HELP THEM SHOULD BE IN ORDER, IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT THEIR PARENTS ARE IDIOTS. srry caps was on lol too lazy to change it.

Thank god Im not the only one with this thought process. I told my mom this last night and she looked at me like I was crazy. It was a mandatpry evacuation as in like they have to leave. If they chose to be a moron and stay behind and expect to be rescued I say screw them!!

IMO, they should have listened to the warnings... although there are cases where elderly or those without family do not have the means to get out.
However.... It didn't stop people who suffered through Katrina from blaming everyone BUT themselves because they did not evacuate. Some of the people on TV, blaming the president and goverment looked able bodied enough to evacuate though... jus sayin...

Yes, they should still be helped. People are going to be stupid no matter what, so it is those peoples jobs to help. They choose the job field.
quoteposted 30th Oct
No. If you are told it is mandatory to leave and given a place to stay and a rude there and don't go, it's your fault.

So you think it's better that first responders risk their life to save someone in a deadly situation, who chose to stay in harms way because of their job? My husband is a firefighter and even they don't go into situations that will more than likely take more lives than save.

Yes, I think they should be helped.
They're dumb as hell for staying behind just because they want to, but you don't know if these people have children. Children can't just make the choice to up and evacuate when their guardians don't want to heed warnings.

Yes, is their job. I was in the military, my husband is in the military, and I just finished my degrees in Public Safety. I we knownly take a job that requires us to put our lives on line for someone regardless of what they did stupid or not, then we must do it. I'm not saying these people are right for staying, but they shouldn't be left to die when people are trained to save people likes these.

But what about the people that either couldn't evacuate, had no time, or tried to leave but couldn't? There are often more victims than rescuers....
