Things in common.

posted 29th Oct
How important is it to have things in common w/ your spouse? If you had basically NOTHING in common- would you marry them?

I know they say opposites attract, do you believe it? Can opposites be happily married?

I think it is important to have some things in common, but not everything.

I believe that "opposites attract", but I don't necessarily believe that "opposites have the best marriages".

My DH is a introvert, home body, gamer. I am outspoken, hate being at home without a purpose, and generally only use my phone to surf BG and the internet. We are pretty opposite, our political beliefs are similar in finances and foreign policy but vary vastly on social issues. We are happily married. We just struggled in the beginning to "like" the other one's likes....didn't work. LOL We don't need to do everything together so some things we don't.

I think opposites can be happily married as long as they respect each other. My SO loves old movies and I hate them but I watch them with him sometimes anyway. I love watching Law & Order SVU and he hates it but watches it anyway. I think there should be give and take with any relationship. The fact that you try to understand at least is what matters, you know?

I think that whether or not opposites attract depends on the individuals. I'm not attracted to the opposite, I find it more attractive the more we have in common. I also think that when you have more in common, you tend to agree on more, which means less arguing... but that's just my opinion.

I think you need to have something in common with your SO. My parents only have my brothers sports in common, and hes going to graduate in 2013. And now, when they have spats, its always "we have nothing in common." Which is sad in my eyes.

I think it's pretty important to have some common ground. My SO and I have a ton in common, but we also have a lot of things that we like/believe/do differently. We have a happy little balance going on.

I think big things are important. Like we are both religious and share political views but in a bag of chex mix we like the things the others hate which is awesome
