In Indiana, you are allowed 2 reasons not to get vaccines, religious or medical. Each one has to be signed off on. The medical one has to be signed by a doctor saying your child is allergic to the ingredients used in the vaccines or it would be detrimental to their health to get the vaccine. Religious exemptions are made on a case by case basis by the superintendent. There is no "philosophical" reason for exemptions in indiana, meaning they don't let you just sign off saying you don't want your child to get vaccinated for various personal feelings or reasons.
It also says students may not be allowed to come to school after the first day if records are not completed, or exemptions are not valid. I looked it up in my handbook.
One of my students has been recently withdrawn from school because she is not up to date on her vaccinations and does not have the waiver in the system. She is not allowed to return to school until she is vaccinated and will have to re-enroll. Her mom cannot get an appointment until 2013 at the local health department.
Great link! Also has the waiver on there. My daughter isn't vaxed either and I dont plan to. Dont let anyone talk you out of what you feel is right for your family. It is NOT mandatory, although people like to make you think it is.
