Peeing the bed....

posted 29th Oct
My almost 4 year old has started peeing the bed EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT! He was potty trained by 2.5 years old. Did great. He had a little set back when the baby came and then was good for a while again. But now I kid you not it's every night. His room stinks and I am soooo sick and tired of washing sheets/blankets every day!
I don't allow drinks after 7pm (bed time is 8:00-8:30pm) and he has to pee after brushing his teeth immediately before bed.
HELP!!!

Early morning is all I know. He sleeps all night, and I find out when he gets up at like 7am.

Has there been any changes in the house hold, or anything that could cause him anxiety?

He got pissed and ripped it off. Because "that's for babies".

No that's the weird thing. It started about late July when his brother (my SS) was out of town (but he left in June), he got back in August, and it still hasn't quit.

How long was he gone total? Maybe he could be having abandonment isuues if he was gone for a good amount of time? I know alot of wetting the bed issues have to do with the father. I was a bed wetter, and was in therapy for years for other things, but it got covered alot too, so this is coming from my own personal experience.

He took those off after I left the room at bed time.
He gets super mad if he thinks we're treating him like a baby, but he won't stop peeing the bed. Its so frustrating

From June 20 something until August 14th. Basically all summer. He went to see his mom out of state. My three year old (will be 4 in a month) was ok until right before SS came back. IDK....I would think that by now it'd be better though since SS has been home for a couple months?

Thats a long time, especially for someone so young. You'd be surprised how long things like that can affect children. Have your asked your DS about why he is wetting the bed? Also, no matter how frusterating it gets for you, make sure DS doesnt feel like he is introuble for doing it.

He just either says
I don't know
or
Cuz I want to.

He doesn't get in trouble for peeing the bed, but he gets in trouble for lying about it. He will get up and change his clothes thinking we won't know he did it.

Yeah lying, and hiding it isnt ok, just make sure he really understands the difference. Usually when they hide it, its because they are scared to be introuble, or they are ashamed of it. My best advice is to buy the plastic sheets to protect the mattress, and just keep working with him and washing his clothes. Cut drinks off at 6:30, and get him up up go pee again before you go to bed, or at midnight. Try for a specific time, so it will start to be routine for him to wake up and go pee. I know some kids are just so knocked out that they dont feel the urge to go, and end up wetting the bed. I would also talk to his doctor about it, just incase it is a physical/mental problem. Good luck!!
