super thick endometrium

posted 29th Oct
Today I had a sonohysterogram done (they stick a catheter through your cervix and into your uterus and fill it with saline, then they do a transvaginal ultrasound.) A little back story: I've had extremely heavy periods accompanied by some pretty intense cramps for years now. Up until recently I just thought that it was normal, but my doctor discovered that I have anemia from all the blood loss. He decided it would be best to cover all of our bases and do this special ultrasound.

My doctor is very hard to read (as he rarely ever shows emotion or concern), but when he was able to see inside my uterus, he just kept going "WOW. Look at how thick that is. WOW. Make sure you get good pictures of that. Hmm... That is REALLY thick." (Referring to the lining of my uterus) His reaction, of course, startled me. And then the ultrasound tech told him she thought she saw a polyp in there, so they spent time checking that out. Anyway, I go back in a week for the results- But I'm nervous. I know it could just be that I have endometriosis, but I'm also worried about uterine cancer. Can any of you mamas relate to my situation?   Any advice or input would be appreciated.

I did. For the most part, it came back with uterine cancer or endometriosis.

Endometriosis, polyps, fibroids, and cancer can all cause thickened endometrial lining, according to Google.

Are they doing a biopsy?

You're right. Forgot to mention the polyps and fibroids.

I'm thinking they might. But that's what the appointment this coming Monday is for. He'll tell me what (exactly) he saw, and what he thinks we should do next. Whenever my pap came back positive for high-risk HPV a few months back, he did a colposcopy and a biopsy... So I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to biopsy my uterus.
