If you want to keep breast feeding, then keep trying whatever you can. I just stopped because I didn't want to breast feed this go aound. I think it was part of my PPD settling in. Just remember if you end up not breast feeding there is nothing wrong with it.

You may be able to go through your local wic office to get a pump if you wanted to give it a try. I had trouble with ds latching at first. He was born at 10:36 pm via emergency c-section and I didn't wake up from anesthesia until around 3 that morning. He finally latched with me laying on my side in the bed and him snuggled in beside me. Good luck!!!

They don't give that anymore.

Wow, I went thru pretty much the same exact thing! [DS didn't eat until his third day, when I actually got to see and hold him. He wouldn't latch and he got to the point where he was eating more than I could pump, a nurse told us "yeah he was still hungry but you didn't have anymore b.m. in the fridge" for one of his feeds. I felt horrrrrrrible. Then they told us if we would choose not suplement with formula then he would be staying much longer in NICU. So we gave him the formula, and we stuck with it.] I was engorged for only a couple of days. I would just apply pressure around my breasts to ease the pain, didn't hand express or anything.

Op, you might be able rent a pump from your hospital. I would hate to see you quick nursing all together because of a rough start, and then regret it later. Most women have a rough start with it but you just have to keep trying. I had a terrible time nursing in the beginning like I explained in my previous post, but I invsted in a great breastfeeding book, I recommend dr. Sears, and dug my heals in deeper. I'm still breastfeeding her now at 21 months and pregnant again.

She is asking for advice on what to do. She obviously feels horrible about the situation and is looking to make some informed decisions. Please share your experience to help, but no need to be rude by telling her she gave up too easily. :/

i guess trying for 3 days seems like giving up too easily to me when you truly want to be succesful at something.

She's already made up her mind about it. No need to make her feel worse. I was devestated having to ff after 3 months of trying to bf so I know how smurffy she feels

Thanks. I didn't believe in my success most of the time and cried daily. But somehow I persevered.

3 months is WAY different than a few days.

Telling her she's giving up too easily and basically making her feel like smurf isn't going to help her either. That comment was made for you to feel better about yourself and what you accomplished. It's great to do at someone Else's expense, isn't it?

I'm not making her feel anything. She made a choice to quit and I personally don't care how she chooses to feed her child. She can start pumping and build her supply back up like I have and I'm informing her that it's in fact possible.

I'm pretty sure I didn't succeed at bf at her expense. If you want something, you have to fight for it. Isnt it something you Americans say? Three days to me isn't enough time to say that you failed at something. It's hardly enough time to get started.

No, but you made you entire reply sound like she was giving up too easily and that you did it "right", which was at her expense. The title of the thread is "Please don't judge. I need help." So the fact that you're judging her kind of makes you look smurffy.
