scarlet fever

Anyone have a child who has had it? I think my son is just getting over it. Kinda sucked

The only lady I know who's had it is older. I didn't think people got it anymore??

that's what I thought too. took him in for high fever and sore throat, but he had a rash too. They found an ear infection and assumed it was strep throat too and gave me the option to not culture his throat since the treatment wouldn't change. I opted not to have the culture done. when we got home the rash really got bad and the fever was hard to control for 3 days. The rash is now peeling and apparently that is a hallmark of scarlet fever, so I assume that's what he had. I guess it doesn't matter really since the treatment would have been the same for strep throat. I was just curious since one never hears of anyone getting it anymore

more insaney itchy then anything - the itching would wake him up. Now he just looks really gross cuz he's peeling everywhere

Scarlet fever is basically the rash part of strep throat. If strep throat isn't treated fast enough people get a rash. My sister/mother/brother got it one year when they didn't realize that had strep throat. From what i remember it was more like flat red little bumps that ran up my brother's arms.

If you haven't seen a dr yet and you think he has scarlet fever, it's probably a good idea to get him checked out and put on antibiotics if that's what it is. It doesn't typically just go away.

We had it and it took a long time for the rash to go away.

yeah it was scarlet fever and we are doing nothing different unless I can't control the fever again. poor kid is miserable and his skin feels like sandpaper.

One of my friends has scarlet fever when we were 12, and it got to bad that all the skin on her hands were coming off, and when she finally went to the doctor, they told her parents if they had waited any longer that she would have gone blind two days later. She could barely eat, because she was throwing up. She couldn't even keep down toast.
