At what age did your kid(s) start doing chores?

I'm just wondering, what are normal chores for your kids and how old are they?

My son is 4 and all he does is clean up his toys, I make our bed since we co-sleep. I read on another post of an 8 year old doing his own laundry at this age and thought it was a bit too much. I live with my nephews and their parents don't make them do anything more than making their beds and pick up their toys (5 and 7 y/os).

Each parent raises their children differently, I don't mean to put to bash anyone I really just want to know how others go about this matter.

LOL My DD puts her clothes in her hamper and puts the clean ones messily in her drawers, and she's about 15 months. She thinks it's a game, and I want to get her started picking up her messes young.

  Same here and DD is almost 21 months.

Its not a chore she has to do, but my 4yr old loves washing the dishes. Her only real chore is to clean up after herself after she plays or spills something.

My daughter is 3 almost 4
She does:
Feed the dog 2x a day 1 in the am and 1 in the pm.
Clean up her toys
help put up her clothes
Put her plate in the kitchen sink after dinner/breakfast etc

She loves feeling accomplished. Every Friday she gets ice cream money for school as her reward. She calls herself "Big Helper" when she does stuff. Most of the time she will do more.

Alex and Axavier are 3 1/2 and 2 respectively and they pick up their toys, help me put away groceries, help me gather dirty clothes when it's laundry day. I'm trying to think if they do anything else. Oh and they know to put away their dishes at the sink when they're done.

My older 2 are 3 and 5 and they are expected to pick up all their toys, put all their clothes in their hamper after taking them off, bring their dirty dishes to the sink when done, throw away all their trash. Not much more than that at their age.

Around 2 I had them start "helping" sweep the floor and wipe down walls and little things like that. My middle son is 4 and is expected to pick up after himself and "help" ( even though sometimes its not really that helpful) with after dinner cleanup like loading the dishwasher, using the swiffer, etc. my 6 year old is in charge of setting the table, and keeping things organized in their room.


I make them lists of two or three little chores to do every day.

DSS is 3 and has has to clean up his toys and book and put his laundry away. DD is almost 18 months and has the same chores as her brother, plus some because she loves helping mommy.

i dnt think its too much. some kids are naturally more responsible. my son is 7 and likes to help. sometimes he will clean the bathroom sink and tub, sweep up and wash the dishes( after I take all the knives out). I have even let him help me do laundry. He puts it in th washer and I give him the detergent, and he can knows how to put it in the dryer as well. my son also can get his own breakfast and lunch. If it is cereal or toaster struddle I let him make it him self. or pizza from the night before. It just depends on how mature the child is and how much you actually let them do.

My oldest's are 5 and almost 4, they're expected to make their beds, clean up their toys/shoes/clothes/etc off the floor, cleaning up their messes (unless it's a big one, then I help) put their dirty clothes in their hamper and help with bringing in groceries. I also get them to help with setting the table or picking up dishes throughout the house. They enjoy helping so I let them do things they don't yell about..lol

My kids (10, 7 and 4) put clothes in the basket, bring them to the laundry room, put clothes away, help carry groceries in, put them away, pick up their room, pick up livingroom (mostly their toys/school bags) and take dishes to kitchen after meals. The 10 year old does do some "running" for us. If we need something from Grandparents he rides his bike over there.

My kids are 18 months 2 and 4 they all clean up there toys, my 2 and 4 year Olds make their bed and straighten up the living room. My 4 year old put up the silverware puts clothes in the washer dusts and helps with the little two. He calls himself a helper man. Lmao.

My daughter turned 3 in July, she dresses herself as folds her pyjamas and puts them on top of her dresser, she rinses her plate after meals and wipes her space at the table. She put away her own washing into the correct drawers(we're working on getting her to fold it all) she cleans her room and packs away the toys outside. And she grates the carrots as potatoes for dinner at night.

My kids are ages 8, 5, 3, 2, and 3 months. My oldest 4 make their beds, pick up their toys, put their dirty clothes in the laundry hamper, and put their dishes in the sink after meals and snacks. Those are chores that they are expected to do everyday.

As for the rest of the housework, we all do that as a family. Everyone pitches in and we all work together to do things like laundry, dishes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping/mopping the floors, and cleaning the bathroom. We put music on, and sing and dance around while cleaning.   It helps get everyone motivated, it makes cleaning the house fun, and it is a great way to spend time together while getting stuff done around the house.
