sick puppy help

posted 28th Oct
My roommate adopted an alaskan huskey puppy that is 5 months old(it was neglected & starved)& when they got to bring her home she had kennel cough. Since then she's been spitting up brown mucus, she wouldn't hold food down for the first 3 days she was here either. We dewormed her & gave her a parvo shot today but she is pooping practically watery dark poop with blood in it tonight. Does this sound like parvo? From my experience with animals it does but my roommate thinks its just as a result of the shot & dewormer

No if the dog had worms you'd know it! Believe me!
That doesn't sound good. Blood in the stool is never good. It could be a gastro issue (inflammation/irritation). Pup didn't chew anything recently by chance? Get into garbage?

I'd say its the dewormer and shot, the smell of parvo smurf is unmistakable ... You'd know ... It's worse than anything in the world ...

Parvo Signs and symptoms

Dogs that develop the disease show symptoms of the illness within 3 to 10 days. The symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea (usually bloody). Diarrhea and vomiting result in dehydration and secondary infections can set in. Due to dehydration, the dog's electrolyte balance can become critically affected. Because the normal intestinal lining is also compromised, blood and protein leak into the intestines leading to anemia and loss of protein, and endotoxins escaping into the bloodstream, causing endotoxemia. Dogs have a distinctive odor in the later stages of the infection. The white blood cell level falls, further weakening the dog. Any or all of these factors can lead to shock and death.[20] The first sign of CPV is lethargy. Usually the second symptoms would be loss of appetite or diarrhea followed by vomiting.

It sounds like she may have parvo. How bad does her poo smell? I've been around a dog that had parvo, and it smelled like death...it was the worst thing that I have ever smelled.

Her poop smells terrible! The smell reached me all the way across the room while she was still smurffing. I had to step outside to avoid puking.

The only problem with taking her to the vet is the technical owner doesn't want to because there 'wasnt enough blood in the poop'

WOW, that isn't a responsible owner.

That sucks. The dog really needs to be seen. Even if it turns out that she doesn't have parvo, there is still obviously something wrong. She needs to be seen! Is there any way of convincing your friend to take her dog to the vet, just to be sure that it's not parvo?
